Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Kitty has the ability of phasing, allowing her to move through objects - for example walking through walls - by altering the vibratory rates of her atoms. During a phase Kitty is completely intangible, allowing objects to pass through her or her through them without harm coming to either. Kitty is also able to use this ability with others, altering another's atoms to allow something to pass through them also but only whilst she is touching them. Other than objects, Kitty can also use her ability to move through electrical fields, interfering with them as she does.

Character History:
X-Men: The Last Stand Wiki (I've only linked this one as this is Kitty's biggest/main appearance, and her own wiki is comic-verse centered)
Kitty was born in Illinois, seemingly an average and normal girl until the age of thirteen. The first sign that something was wrong started when Kitty began to develop headaches, something which later strengthened before her ability manifested itself. Kitty has the ability of phasing, allowing her to move through objects - for example walking through walls - by altering the vibratory rates of her atoms. Before her ability emerged Kitty wasn't the most popular person in school but she never wanted to be. She wasn't part of many clubs but was pretty happy, enjoying school and out of school life with her friends - and they were quite close. When her powers emerged, and she used them accidentally, that's when things changed. She still had a couple of friends who stood by her, but they weren't the most understanding or helpful.
Kitty's first meeting with another mutant was with that of Professor Charles Xavier, the founder of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Whilst Kitty was at first weary and unsure of this, he ultimately managed to convince her to go with him to find out who she is whilst exploring and learning to control her gift.
[ Alteration from comic canon: ] Where Kitty's history in movie and comics differs the most is here. In the movies Xavier was the first mutant that Kitty met, bringing her to the school but in the comics she was approached by both Xavier (X-Men) and Emma Frost (Hellfire Club) to be recruited for both causes. [
mentioned here ] Everything thus after is seen in the movies - Kitty attends Xaviers, studies, learns to use and control her ability and eventually trains to become part of the next generation of X-Men.
Along with meeting other mutants this is where Kitty's life changed the most - it was a place where she felt most comfortable and at home, and had friends and people around her who understood exactly how she felt. Despite the fear and hate surrounding mutants, Kitty would never wish to stop being a mutant or to change her power - she'd rather help others to understand and become educated about them. Regarding other powers, she will always think that other powers are cool, though through others she has learned the harder sides of them and because of this, knowing her own power and liking what she can do, she would never change her power. She'd rather work as a team, gaining the benefits from all powers together.
Point in Canon: End of X-Men 3: The Last Stand
Character Personality: When Kitty first discovered that she was a mutant - and had the ability of phasing - she was scared. She'd heard about mutants, knew what they were but in terms of herself it frightened her - she'd been just a normal girl and now everything was changing. This fear was lessened slightly when she met Professor Charles Xavier - the first mutant that she'd met. Although she was weary of him, the fact that he could understand her and her fears and knew a lot about mutants made her want to trust him. With him and the school Kitty learned to control and even feel differently about being a mutant, something which helped her control her ability.
At the school, as well as learning how to phase at will and extending her abilities onto others, Kitty proved to be a smart girl, excelling in subject areas. Her friendly, and often bubbly, personality allowed her to quickly make friends and even gain romantic interests and she was briefly involved in a relationship with a fellow student named Colossus. With her friends Kitty is a confident girl though at certain times, even with her friends, she will become unsure of herself and second guess herself too. The support from her friends as well as their friendship helps to reassure Kitty's beliefs and they have helped to make her stronger as a person, strengthening the girl that she is as well as her determination. Kitty wishes to help others and partakes in the training sessions in the Danger Room, training to become one of the new X-Men so that she may help as previous X-Men also have.
In the face of danger Kitty has shown herself to be rather gutsy and instinctual, able to use her ability under pressure and with quick thought. When faced with trouble, for example when Kitty rescued Leech from the Juggernaut, Kitty was able to come up with a quick solution when it was shown that her own ability was unable to work due to Leech's, her idea using that knowledge to also counteract the Juggernaut's so that they would be able to escape. While Kitty may not be tough in a physical sense, she is mentally and tries not to let danger scare her quite so much.
It is unknown as to whether Kitty's parents are still alive or whether they are part of the group which are not only afraid of but are also, in a sense, disgusted by mutants. In a conversation with Bobby after Professor Xavier had died, Kitty mentioned that she had no one or anything but the school. Despite her sadness around this, as well as that of the situation, one of Kitty's fondest memories of home is when it snows, particularly the first snow. Kitty is a skilled ice skater and skates when she wishes to relax or to relieve herself of tension or bad feelings.
Kitty is also a very morally strong and though her ability can be used for harm Kitty has no intentions or wish to harm anyone. She's seen and fully understands the fear regarding mutants without wishing to add to that herself and any training that she does she uses for a protective nature, to protect herself, other mutants and humans harmed by mutants. One of the things that Kitty would love to see - as well as the general mutant consensus - is peace between mutants and humans. Whilst things are becoming better, a mutant holds a high political standing, the president is understanding and humans are becoming more educated, full peace has yet to be fully achieved, something which - for Kitty - looks a little less likely through recent acts. Though she believes this it will not stop her from being who she is - she is a mutant first and is becoming prouder of that fact with every good thing which happens due to mutant acts. Kitty is also of Jewish heritage from her paternal grandfather, though whether she is religiously Jewish or just culturally is unknown, though no one has seen her practise or speak of religion.
On first appearance Kitty's beliefs may make her seem rather naive - her friendliness and wish to help everyone is a nice thought but realistically infeasible. Although Kitty knows that it isn't possible to save everyone - either through experience or plain understanding - it is still a wish that she holds - she'd rather save as many people as possible, even if she'd have to sacrifice herself to save another. Kitty's strong beliefs can also make her stubborn, something which is often more of a good thing than a negative thing. Her kind heart and refusal to harm others (except for extreme situations) helps to remind others that there are other ways to act or settle things than violence - though mostly those ideas are often just that.
Strengths: Studious - Kitty is an intelligent girl in all aspects of her studies - school, training and learning herself and her ability. She's a curious girl, wishing to know answers and looking to find the right questions to lead her where she wants. In the three years that she's been at Xavier's she's come a long way in learning her own mutant abilities but also in her training with others too, something which showed in the battle at Alcatraz.
Open minded - whilst Kitty may originally been afraid of being a mutant, meeting Professor Xavier opened her eyes to the better side about it. Kitty is proud to be a mutant and sees the good in people and their abilities even if others can't. She has strong ideas and wishes for others to be able to see and understand them like she does. She's open to ideas and suggestions, using them to help better herself or her work.
Kind/Helpful/Friendly - Kitty is a friendly girl, helping others where she can even if it's just by being their friend. When she met Leech, even though things seemed difficult she first was friendly and kind towards him, reassuring him and showing that she was good before trying to get him to go with her. Kitty wouldn't force anyone to do what they wouldn't want to do but if something was necessary she would be persistent in trying to help someone.
Always tries her best/hardest/Isn't quickly deterred by failure - This links in with Kitty's studious nature and her resourcefulness. When an answer or situation seems bleak (such as getting Leech out of his room without her power) Kitty wasnt deterred by the fact that her original option wasn't possible and instead tried again. As a student Kitty is an intelligent girl, working hard to learn what she can abs question until she understands or to learn more. In her X-Men training Kitty works hard to know the strengths and weaknesses of everyone in the team in case she can spot something that someone else hasn't to help defend (such as grabbing Bobby to let a flying object phase through them)
Quick thinker on her feet/Resourceful - In training with the X-Men (and the battle at Alcatraz) Kitty has been placed in situations where conventional means of defence or ideas aren't possible. To find solutions Kitty has had to think quickly in the moment and to think outside of the box - using what she knows as well as the situation around her to find an answer.
A strong person (doesn't let mutant hate get to her) - Kitty sees and hears about hate towards mutants far more often than she'd like and has grown from experiencing it, helping her to become stronger and more resilient. Things that would have hurt or saddened her now have less effect and it takes more to provoke those responses or anger.
Calm - Kitty is a very peaceful person, not wishing for violence and is training to be an X-Man to help and protect others. Her non-offensive mutant ability means that she can't attack with it, meaning she'd need to learn combat if she ever had to attack - something which she hasnt done and would prefer not to do either.
Weaknesses: Can seem naive - Kitty's wishes for peace between mutants and humans and especially now within mutants is strong. As unlikely as it seems she is a firm believer that it can happen, especially due to advances that have already happened. Despite this, her belief makes her seem naive as she is seeing the good in everyone for the peace to happen when it's going to be a long road with much opposition.
Possibly a little gullible - Kitty is still young and although she's had to grow and mature a lot and quickly she's still a young woman and is prone to youth fallacies. Although Kitty has her own mind and strong beliefs she can be swayed, especially when something can sound convincing.
Can have weaker moments (letting the hate effect her) - Although Kitty has grown through and because of the hate towards mutants, hearing and experiencing it frequently is still hard and when it builds up, particularly if she's having a bad day, it does still upset her. It hurts daily knowing that there are those who cannot accept mutants but Kitty works to ignore that and focus instead on the positives.
Not used to the outdoors - as a city girl Kitty has experienced little of nature or anything outdoors, for example the countryside, barring any camping trips she's taken. Although the school has large grounds, the majority of them is rarely used and they are still close to the city.
Has experienced little (other than her education and mutant abilities/training) - As Kitty is still young she has few life experiences other than those from being at school - both pre and during being at Xavier's. The battle at Alcatraz was her first 'adventure' as a part of the X-Men and was both a new experience and vastly different to what she'd experienced in training. Kitty still has a lot to learn both in life and her education and has many more things to experience.
Character Plans: I want all the teen cr :D I'm not quite certain what to do with her other than her being her, making friends and doing the big real world life thing. Maybe accidentally get her into trouble by being a little too naive? She may even end up wanting to be a Greeter, cause she's all helpful.
Appearance/PB: Kitty is portrayed by Ellen Page (

Writing Samples
First Person Sample [ video ]
[ The video comes on to show a young girl sat in a pretty bare room. She's been in the Port for a couple of days, and managed to get her hands on actual clothes, but has yet to really do anything. She's not too sure that she wants to ]
I have to admit that coming to Canada was pretty low down on the things I was planning to do this year. [ She didn't actually have a list but if she had? It wasn't on it ]
I want to thank the person that pretty much rescued me, and then told me everything. A machine that pulls people to a baseball diamond? Kind of scary stuff. I'm not sure if I want to put my head in the sand or if I can actually get my head around it. [ It's been a long year... mostly few weeks but ]
So Siren's Port, Canada? I guess that's somewhere new. So how many people are actually here? And what do you do? That's probably the weirdest part, figuring what to do now that we've just been left here.
Oh- I'm Kitty, by the way. Just to say hi. [ And she gives a small, half hearted wave before shutting the video off ]
Third Person Sample Who's hiding, dickhead?
It was bold and she'd surprisingly pulled it off. She hadn't expected it to but with the reaction she'd gotten from him? Kitty had to time it right, pulling Leech with her at the last minute before Juggernaught hit them.
Kitty smiled, loosening her grip except when she looked around she realised that Leech wasn't there. And the room that she'd been in? It was gone.
"Leech?" Kitty called out, pushing herself up quickly. She was worried, wondering where Leech was and how she'd gotten outside.
Had she been wrong? Had she not moved quick enough? Kitty felt fine, except for slightly nauseous but she didn't feel hurt... and someone would have come for her, right? She wouldn't have been outside, alone... in the dark?
"Come on Kitty." She muttered to herself, turning to look at where she was.
"A baseball diamond? Okay, well at least these have names. And-" Kitty stopped at the sound of a growl, turning to look around - although with how dark it was it was impossible to see.
"Don't be afraid. Don't be afraid. You'll get out." Except... telling herself that wasn't quite enough, not with footsteps and the growling getting louder. She was lost, alone and starting to panic.
REVISIONS SAMPLE: Siren's Port. Canada. Kitty had thought that she'd known danger - given what she'd come from, how many people had died... if that was danger then they needed to create a new word for whatever this place was. It was one thing to hear about it, apparently that's how most people found out about it, but to experience it from the start?
She'd been afraid. Terrified actually. Had someone not been there, Greeter was the term, right?, Kitty wasn't certain if she'd have survived or not. She may have been able to phase, become untouchable but abilities were also affected by emotions and then - being 'kidnapped' and seeing that? Hers had been a mess. She'd recovered quickly enough, after being taken from the danger and just talking; it had been enough of a distraction to let her start to slowly calm herself. It would take a lot more than that for it to sink in but she'd felt a little better at least, enough to question what she was being told (even for her it sounded a little too weird, and she came from a place with abilities).
It had been a week. One long week. Talking to people had helped pass the time but she felt lost. She didn't know anyone and doing? What were you supposed to do? She'd gone out into the city, trying to find out whatever she could; she'd even asked herself what the Professor would do. It had helped a little but there'd been something bigger on her mind, bigger than home in general.
Leech. Kitty had been with him and now that she was here? The Juggernaught would only have stayed knocked out for so long, even with all of his momentum but even if Leech had ran who would he have ran to? He'd trusted her a little after the Juggernaught had crashed through the wall, after Kitty had shown that she'd risk getting hurt to protect him but he didn't know anyone else... the Brotherhood could have gotten to him before the X-Men did and then they'd be in trouble.
That was the worst part about being here, not knowing. Not knowing how the... she didn't want to call it a war but if Magneto wasn't stopped? It would quickly turn into one, and if he had Leech? He couldn't hurt people but Magneto could easily turn something around, use him as a threat to those that were against him. Or hurt him. She didn't want to think about that - he didn't deserve that, no one that Magneto had hurt did.
Kitty had kept that story hidden, she'd kept pretty much everything hidden; even if she knew that she could trust people here it wasn't a pleasant story. Even if here she was like everyone else, sort of - being given an ability didn't really quite seem the same as being a Mutant even if the principle was the same (the Professor would have a better idea), it didn't stop her feeling alone. It actually made her feel worse - no one here had the help that she'd gotten from the X-Men... from Xavier, they'd all had to deal with it alone. It made her feel lucky, and definitely thankful for him. But to be kidnapped to somewhere and then be given an ability? She'd remembered how she'd felt, how freaky and scary it had been. Except DNA was one thing, experimentation was another.
Experimentation... like Magneto. No one here knew of him, knew of him being here but it didn't help her being reminded of him - of what he'd done to Rogue. For that to happen to everyone? It wasn't right. The 'cure' may have been a stupid choice (it was one step to playing God) but changing people was a different kind of cruelty. One that didn't sit right with her.
She'd asked about the Core, wanting to know how, why... she didn't understand it from a biological level (not more than what the Professor had explained to her when he'd taken her to the school) but she knew what it was doing and she knew that it shouldn't be. The problem was getting to it and stopping it. Kitty had been told that it was impossible but it wasn't something that she wasn't to believe - nothing was really impossible, just usually very difficult. This was one of those cases, and it was something that she wanted to figure out. She may have been alone but there were other people here, people like her that didn't agree with the Core either. Maybe they could figure it out.
Maybe they could stop the horror.
