Character Name: Ty Lee
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Species: Human
Sexuality: Pansexual
Appearance: Ty Lee looks surprisingly ordinary, with brown hair and eyes, but she is of course anything but. She normally keeps her hair tied up in a braid with a pink ribbon that matches her clothing. Growing up as an acrobat, she knows the importance of clothing that lets her breathe and doesn't restrict her movement, which is why she can often be found in pink, loose-fitting clothes that leave her abdomen exposed.
Personality: She's aloof almost to a fault and the very definition of "free spirit". She'll walk on her hands to get from place to place just because she can, and it's not uncommon to see her jumping from rafters or scaling large structures for the fun of it. Whether she craves attention or just simply likes it is yet to be seen, but it doesn't matter -- she gets it. From bystanders amused by her antics; from her friends; from boys. Sometimes from girls. In the field of romance, she definitely knows she's hot and when she gets the chance, she will flaunt it. However, as goofy as she may come off, she's fiercely loyal to her friends, including Mai and (up until recently, anyway) Princess Azula.
Abilities: Ty Lee, being in tune with her spiritual side, claims that she can read auras and occasionally judges people by how their emotions display themselves in their auras. In the physical plane, though, she's incredibly limber and can bend her body into all sorts of positions. She knows the best ways to maneuver so she can jump great distances and land safely, among other acrobatic acts. Possibly her most dangerous aspect, though, is her seemingly innate knowledge of pressure and chi points. With a touch in the right place, she can paralyze opponents physically or cripple them by blocking their bending abilities.
Weaknesses: Though she is dangerous with her fingers, she can only harm humans, and even then, if their chi works differently, she won't be as effective at blocking innate abilities. She'll assume that pressure points remain the same, but she may end up surprised anyway. Aside from the limitations to her abilities, her flighty attitude can occasionally get her in trouble. For example, she'll agree to help with others' plans just because she's bored and it's something to do. She also seems to be easily intimidated into participating, but in fairness, Azula would intimidate anybody.
Manhattanite or Outsider? Outsider, from the Fire Nation.
History: Ty Lee was born to a large family, one of seven sisters who all looked identical. Because of this, she learned to set herself apart from the rest through any means possible, including acrobatics and, eventually, running off to join the circus. Before then, though, she forged a strong childhood friendship with fellow Fire Nation children Mai, Zuko, and Azula. This friendship stood even after she left for the circus, evident when Azula approached her and got her to join a mission to hunt down Zuko and his uncle Iroh.
While on this mission, Ty Lee ran across the Avatar and his traveling party (taking a special interest in Sokka) and aided in infiltrating and taking over the Earth Kingdom capital Ba Sing Se. During the initial stages of the infiltration, she managed to fell an entire squadron of Earthbenders and again gave Sokka attention when the Avatar arrived. Later on, she disguised herself as a Kyoshi warrior to gain access to the temple and assist Azula in a full takeover.
After the Earth Kingdom was taken care of, Ty Lee accompanied her friends to Ember Island for a vacation orchestrated by the Fire Lord. There, she managed to get the attention of several boys and tried to help a jealous Azula learn how to deal with boys herself, but with little success. Her romantic success angered Mai, who accused her of craving attention -- this led to a full-on heart-to-heart discussion in which Ty Lee told her friends about her situation growing up and why she joined the circus. As the four of them poured their hearts out to each other, the tension between them dissolved and they started treating each other as friends again.
The tension came back in no time, though, when the princess and Ty Lee arrived at the Boiling Rock to stop a break-out attempt by Zuko. Mai arrived and saved her boyfriend's skin, which made Azula, understandably, incredibly angry. To prevent the princess from killing Mai, though, Ty Lee mustered up all her courage and attacked Azula's chi and pressure points, disabling her. That led to her being thrown into the Boiling Rock with Mai, both of them being seen as traitors.
If it weren't for that suspicious cooler that got reinstalled, Ty Lee might have wasted away in the prison forever. It only took one act of insubordination to get her sent to the cooler, but that was enough. All she really remembered was going to sleep in the cooler and waking up in... some ruined city.
