If anyone had bothered to ask him before plying him with truth-inducing mind-altering drugs, Jamie could have told them that they wouldn't do anyone any good.

Beyond the bars of Jamie's cell is a small room, with a very securely locked door. He doesn't get much in the way of visitors, nowadays.

Which is why it may be surprising when the distinctive sound of locks clicking open echoes dully in the room.

He's sort of expecting Barrayaran security again.

It's not. It's the Chief of Weatherall Station Security -- Jamie never did get his name -- and Tee, flanking a third person. A stranger; a civilian, judging by his clothes.

The Chief makes a gesture toward the cell. "Would that be him?"

The stranger's a middle-aged man, his round face only faintly lined and his hair only sprinkled with grey; he's stocky and unremarkable. And he's frowning a little at Jamie now.

"Yasha?"
