Summary: Dean was hurt because Sam had been careless, and now Sam had to get on with what needed to be done. Now was not the time to give in to his own aches and pains. Pre-season, hurt/ sick! Sam, minor hurt/ major angst! Dean, angst! John.

Yay! I finally caught up with this and lurrrrved the heck outta it! I especially thought John's subtle self-admissions were spot on. Being a parent myself, I so got it. Wonderful tale. Congrats!

Oh good - I'm really pleased you liked John at the end! I didn't want him to be too gushy and sweet (not John at ALL) but on the other hand I couldn't leave Sam where he was all messed up (and John wasn't in such great shape himself...).

Aw I cried at the end... So sweet! Perfect perfect ending! The beginning tricked me too lol And I was trying to figure out how you'd manage to bring him back. And then he was there! Alive! Ooh love the way you portrayed John and his guilt. It was perfect. So perfect. Reminiscent of the time when he said goodbye to Dean in the season 2 finale. ^_^ Youre awesome!!

Hehe, I wanted to mess around with my readers a little - make you think I'd killed him and then produce an alive Sammy for everyone's relief! I'm glad you enjoyed it, though! And yes, John - he did deserve to feel guilty but he's not an evil dad, just an awkward one. He definitely loves both his boys, even if he's bad at showing it.

Whew! You put me through the wringer with this!

I found your John to be in keeping with the way I see him--loveing his boys but totally unable to show it in the way parents normally do.

I'm so glad John came across believably for you. That's the way I see him too. He's awkward and not good at showing how he feels - or even thinking he is showing it even while he's screwing up - but there's no doubt that he adores his boys.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this story so much! Thank you. First you had be convinced Sam didn't make it. Then I was worried John wouldn't say what needed to be said. But in the end it all came together so perfectly! Such a wonderful story =)

I'm so happy you liked it! Maybe I'm just naive, but I do love a happy ending, with most of the loose ends tied up (maybe because it usually doesn't happen in real life - it's a nice little escape in fiction!) I hoped John wasn't too OOC in the hugging scene, but then again, there's no doubt how much he loved his boys. His biggest problem was showing it.
