Standardized Failure

I am tired of standardized failure. The American classroom-style education system does not exist to teach people to the best of their ability to learn, but instead to teach students to the lowest common denominator, thus wasting as much as 90% of the time for quicker students and bleeding from many of them the desire to learn. Seriously, the whole IDEA of American public education is to produce minimally educated factory/cubicle workers who are used to doing what they are told at the same time and pace as everyone else. I don't think you can get around that even if you have a million fantastic ideas for better ways to educate, because then you end up with a workforce of people who want to think for themselves and that does not benefit corporations, government or the military, who all need uncomplaining worker bees. Personally, we opted out of the public education system, but I feel bad for people who can't and still want something better for their kids.

We can't take Danny out of school, that would be an impossible decision for us.

It would be interesting to see where schooling is 100 years from now.

i home schooled my kids --one on one (i had two students), we focused on their strengths and what they liked to do. we didn't recreate school, they learned 'life skills' and how they related to different subjects. a trip to the grocers was educational --compare items, unit pricing, ingredients, estimate total, etc. cooking was 'weights and measures' and chemistry, etc...
