This morning I watched the pilot episode of a show some of you have probably already seen. The episode title was 'A Hard Day's Night', and the show itself was a medical relationship drama called Grey's AnatomyRinging any bells

awwww i remember this pilot. I dropped out of this show around season 4 or 5 but it seems like something i'd like to catch up with again! So much has changed!!!
I was only on board in a very hit and miss fashion from season seven on-wards (prior to that, I was addicted IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD!).
I just bought a couple of the early season DVD box sets, so I'm starting a re-watch of 1-3 at the very least, but it'll probably drag out to season 6 because LEXIEEEE!!!
I'm not sure how interested I am in catching up to the current day episodes though, but we will see... If you do catch up, be sure to post about it!!
NGL, the DVD switching thing did factor in for me, but then I noticed that season one is only on two DVDs (5 eps on one and 4 on the other) and really I decided I could probably manage that!!
Ack! ETA 12x12 is a callback ep to the pilot! They bring back Katie Bryce! And "Into the fire"! I KNOW, I KNOW! I saw some gifs!! And there was a flashback to Derek saying 'It's a beautiful night to save lives' as Mere walked into the OR with him for the first time and just... WAAAAHHHHHH.
The chief of cardio doing an appendectomy was a nice wtf moment, and I always side-eye Derek shaving Katie's head himself as well...
Otherwise, plot-wise, it's definitely a srsbsns pilot, that's for sure. I want to keep rewatching when I can, but I want to actually pay attention to it so that rules out any multitasking time... but it will happen!!!! (where the number of exclamation points is inversely proportional to my confidence). I'm hoping this doesn't happen though!
From what I recall, I think the show will stand up pretty well on this front. Especially these early scenes. I mean, the number of Front and Centre female characters it has still kicks many new shows asses. And while there are plenty of problematic things happening, they're largely deliberate and addressed (ie. the Chinese translation scene I've referenced in my episode two post). I have high hopes. I remember it gets terrible later on, and it's AWFUL at presenting disability in general, but we will see, we will see.
The first 3 seasons are AMAZING AND PERFECT AND GLORIOUS. Even the first 6 are pretty damn great for the most part. I've only been a hit and miss viewer since season 7 so I can't really speak to the later seasons, but I firmly believe it's lost a lot of what made it was it was back in the day (and a lot of what drew me to it - I absolutely understand why people are still enjoying it, but it's different and no where near as much 'my thing' as it used to be).
Though, to be honest, all you should need is CRISTINA YANG as incentive.
I just checked and OMG the show's been going for TWELVE SEASONS. I KNOWWWWW! It's kind of astounding. It's been great for some of the actors with families because it's given them security and stability. Justin Chambers, who plays Alex Karev, has five kids IRL and he's definitely been interviewed about that side of things before. Very handy, I suspect!
And yeah, I'm also not surprised by the changes. Selfishly disappointed, of course, but not surprised.
I watched E.R. and really loved it but it was before fandom for me and so it didn't have all the extra 'stuff' that came with the Grey's experience for me.
If you do go back and visit GA, you should totally post about it because I will be ALL OVER THAT SHIT, OMG.
