[gaming] Up for a little WAR?

Mar 27, 2009 12:58

More later, mostly regarding impressions of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning vs. World of Warcraft vs. pen & paper MMOs, but long story short, I'm probably trading WoW for WAR, at least for a while.

Does anyone play, if so what side and server (I'm leaning heavily towards order), and want to share a recruit a friend code?

For Order I'm on Iron Claw (oceanic), a warrior priest named Yngvild.

For Destruction I'm on Thorgrim (or is it Phoenix Throne? which one's the RP server?), a witch elf named Vivianni.

I'm not on a lot, but if I knew I'd have people to play with, I'd pay more attention.

I think I have a recruit a friend code, but I'd have to check. Would it be in the documentation in the clamshell case the disk came in?

You just go to accounts.mythic.com or something, and you can generate as many as you want.

I'm also on Ironclaw/Phoenix Throne, but unfortunately I've mostly left Bayani to fend for himself because I've been too swamped with work.

If by "fend for himself", you mean, "hasn't been playing, also due to work."

It seems like a lot of people switched to WAR. Josh and i tried it, but it didn't really take. We went back WOW recently, and we've been having a great time playing again. (Although we're being very low-key about it - no big raiding or anything.)

Glad you're back and enjoying it. I hit 80 twice, and I don't really raid, and trying to find pick up groups for raids and dungeons and annoying, and PVP is all about arenas these days, so I kind of ran out of things to do. I imagine I'll go back eventually, but I like that you can jump into solo PVP in WAR, even if it doesn't look nearly as nice on my laptop.

I think a lot of us who switched to WAR haven't been with WoW for years, so it was more picking up a new game than a switch.

fair enough.
We'd left Wow ages ago - i think before Madeleine was born. I was pleased that we were able to pick up where we left off. (We'd been at 58 or so, and ran into issues with levelling without raiding. Now we have good new territory to explore, so we're bck at being able to play with a low key nature again.)

I wish i could figure out why somethng like WAR didn't work as well for us...

Beats the heck out of me. I still can't figure out how you apply chaos black primer to electrons, so I'm probably too stupid to help.

So, have you given up on table top?

Table top Warhammer, or in general? I still run my Eberron game once a week, and would probably play more D&D if I could.

I never really got into the Warhammer tabletop game, though I was more interested in WH40k. But mostly I didn't have the patience or painting speed to get into the minis wargame space. Plus Games Workshop seems to be particularly egregious about releasing a new ruleset every 2-3 years and forcing people to buy new copies of the rules (and in some cases, new minis too).

If I really wanted to get into wargaming, I think I'd be more likely to do Warmachine or Hordes.

In general/ D&D. Table top Warhammer looks cool... if one is interested in elaborate arts & crafts projects and complicated rules systems. (Actually, under different circumstances, I could see it as an ideal bonding hobby for you and Kim. :) Getting into it does seem a commitment--I don't see much of an entry for a casual gamer to pick up a small army, as I do for games like Magic.

The D&D minis game actually seems pretty good, though I haven't tried it as yet. I do have a lot of figures for it, though....

I gotta say, I paint a lot more than I play.
