Contrary to popular belief, rabbits are neither defenseless nor harmless. Particularly if you wake up next to one and startle it.

...my sister was attacked by a rabbit! It charged her, making a roaring sound, and bit into the leg of her jeans. She made a clean escape, but she didn't play with the neighbor's rabbit much after that.

See? It's no laughing (or snerking) matter. But I'm glad to say this one was rather tame...except for the part where it apparently decided it wanted to give my left eye another go.

I wasn't sleeping next to it so much as it was sleeping next to me. I was just sleeping outside as usual and it apparently thought I could use its company.
