i actually quite like this book. however i agree with you that there are some major flaws. while i am not bothered by sunshine's digressions, i am bothered by the fact that 90% of them are about baking cinnamon rolls. i get that she's a baker, but i the reader despite liking to cook, am simply not that interested in cinnamon rolls. 2 digressions on that subject would have been plenty, thank you. the second big problem i have is that sunshine seems to two-dimensional to me. she has 3 things going on in her life besides this vampire thing; her baking, her mom issues, and the SOF thing. i'm tempted to throw in her boyfriend as well...but he's really kind of a non-issue in this book; an afterthought rather than a subplot. and i don't get why he's into her, give that she's so two dimensional. BOR-ING. the mother, con, and the boyfriend, to say nothing of the landlady are WAY more interesting characters.
i have re-read it, but only once. fevre dream is a better vampire book.
Agreed. Once they got into the landlady, I really wanted to say "Screw Sunshine, I wanna know more about HER!" And she kinda sorta has this almost-affair with the vampire, but spends almost no time thinking about it in relation to the boyfriend she professes to adore. Oh and btw, what's with the boyfriend's tattoos, which may or may not imply that HE might also be something more than human? They hinted at that, then went nowhere with it.
Meh. I guess I'm mostly annoyed because I WANTED to like this book... It had potential, but never quite lived up to it.
