This song is from Howl's Moving Castle and because I like it so much, I'm going to share it with you. So sit back, remember to right-click-save and enjoy the ride. XD
Chieko Baishou - Sekai no Yakusoku 『
"The World's Promise" Chieko Baishou
The trembling smile within the tears is
From the beginning of time, the world's promise
Now I'm alone but because of our yesterday
Today sparkles into being¹
Like the day we first met
In my memories, you're not there
But as a soft wind you gently touch my cheek
The sunlight filtering through the trees² on the afternoon after our parting is also
Never ending, the world's promise
Now I'm alone but tomorrow is limitless
That which you taught me
In the night, a hidden tenderness
In my memories you're not there
But in a murmering³ song, the color of the sky,
The scent of flowers, you live on forever.
Notes:
¹ - Because the phrase is "生まれきらめく" it's kind of like, "sparkles as it's born" but since days aren't really born, I thought "sparkles into being" worked better.
²; - Believe it or not, this phrase ("sunlight filtering through the trees") was just one word in Japanese. >__< Granted, one that isn't often used, but still.
³ - The dictionary showed "せせらぎ" to be "song" like the babbling of a brook or murmer of a stream, but since a "singing song" sounds kind of silly, I changed it a little.
In general: this song was incredibly vague. ;___; It took me double-checking the meaning of the particle に to figure out at the "you" that was implied in the end. Because otherwise it's just a list of those pretty images and then "live forever". But thank goodness it finally clicked. ~__~; Also, there is no real "but" in the third and last stanzas (verses?!) BUT (XD) if you're going to say, "You're not there, as/in trees you live forever," I thought throwing in a "but" made it more natural.
In other news, my new kotatsu is here and works like a dream. ::curls up under it, purring:: Ah the warmth.... ^__^;; Sadly, it is not strong enough to heat up my whole room but when you stretch your legs out under it or just have it sitting nearby, cranked up (as it is now), it's quite nice.
