Part of me loves reading Bataille & Baudelaire, watching films like A Zed and Two Noughts and listening to Eric Satie.

The other part of me loves reading manga & comic books, watching movies like What's New Pussycat? and listening to 60s pop ( Read more... )

My art & photos used to be really dark, but lately it's been all about bright colors and cuteness. Trying to dress myself can be a real pain. How do you mix a cute & colorful mod polkadot skirt with black leather platform bondage boots? haha!! ;D

I know what it's like! I feel like my obsessions pull me in a million oppositional directions, I like it.

yes, i know what you mean--life would be so simple if one could just slip into a stereotype without contradictions.

personally, i like reading victorian novels and swooning over mr. darcy, but i also like to stomp around in combat boots while screaming misfits lyrics. i'll never be a card-carrying member of either world, but i don't regret it much.

we'd all be so dull if we stuck to one subculture.

good grief... I can't imagine what it's like trying to fit into a group - even if it's a subculture group! when I was teen it made life really complicated though. None of the groups at school ever wanted me. The nerd/geeks thought I was too much of a stoner/rocker. The stoner/rockers thought I was too much of a goth/punk and the goth/punks thought I was too much of a nerd/geek. The jocks/cheerleaders/preppies and I rarely got along, but their were a few exceptions and they would only talk to me if they were alone. haha ( ... )

Actually, I always admired and thought that the fact that you had passions on both ends of the spectrum made you in line to be an artist that wouldn't be limited by one aesthetic and taste, but possibly go beyond the limits of both ( ... )

Burton totally has the cute/dark thing down! My problem is that my dark side wants nothing to do with my cute side and vice/versa. haha!!

I do enjoy variety and having lost of different interests, it only ever gets complicated when I'm torn between doing two things like taking photos of cute smiling dolls or working on a serious story about death and dying. I'm really determined to find a better balance this year and learn how to manage my time better. I also want to do more illustrating/painting since I haven't done it in a few years but I'm always shy about sharing my drawings because they're really manga inspired. I like drawing cute things with big eyes. ^^;;

I know what you mean about having lots of interests and broad tastes, although I think my taste has become somewhat more focused to an extent. Contradiction was actually one of the themes I spent a time exploring in school and probably why I got interested in Jungian psychology, which is partially based on dualities in the psyche. There's nothing to say you couldn't try to find connections within your interests.

BTW I finally added you back. I've kept forgetting!
