I've had a lot going lately and not much time to write about it all, so I put a quick list together of 10 Good Things, which is based on an idea originally started by danschank in his lj.
1. I have been paying attention to your blog more regularly and have been enjoying the blog-a-thon posts. It seems like they would be fun, but I have a hard enough time remembering to post entries on a regular basis.
3. I managed to catch half of the show on Sunday as a repeat. Good stuff.
5. I'm looking forward to this album! It definitely seems like she's going back into a more dance direction, what with the Timbaland production and all. What a great song. Did you hear her soundtrack for Drawing Restraint No.9? I've only heard it in the context of Barney's film, but it was probably the best thing about it.
Thanks! I really think you should try contributing a film blog-a-thon. You're a great writer and I think you'd enjoy the experience. I've met some interesting people through blog-a-thons and got the chance to chat with critics like Tim Lucas and Jim Emerson (he works at the Sun Times with Ebert) which has been interesting.
I wanted to mention that I actually got a comment from the director of Overlord today which really surprsised me. I'm going to send him an email tonight and try and chat a bit more about his film. His note made me feel like I must be doing some okay writting since he really seemed to like what I wrote about his film. I hope you get a chance to see it soon because I really think you'd enjoy it.
As for Bjork, I have not heard Drawing Restraint No.9. but I've been curious about it. I have mixed feelings about Barney but I need to see more of his films before I form a real opinion about him.
Yeah...it's different from his other films, based on what I've read, but still in the same vein conceptually. My feelings about him are still pretty mixed. It's an interesting film, but I don't think you can read it in the same way you read true cinema, which I find frustrating. One of the professors presenting it put it best when he said that Barney is primarily a sculptor who uses the medium of cinema as a way of presenting work. I'd like to eventually see all the Cremaster cycles so I can judge him more fully.

Thanks much!
I didn't realize the Alejandro Jodorowsky boxset was out this week. That's great news! But where is Santa Sangre? Santa Sangre is my favorite Jodorowsky movie and it should be in that set.
I can't keep up with all the great new DVDs coming out lately. I hope to post a list of all the great 60s-70s era movies finding there way to DVD in my blog soon so keep an eye out! :)
i like those blog-a-thons... i was thinking, about a year or two back when i was watching film pretty voraciously, of trying to take part in one, but i get the impression that an lj blog is seen as too, i dunno, myspace-y or something. it's funny how there's a hierarchy of blog sites. maybe this is all in my head?
i've heard nothing but good about fay grim. it just played here in the philly film fest, and people seemed to like it. i didn't see it. the # of good things i missed is criminal, but seeing the new tsai ming-liang made it all worthwhile.
i saw bill moyers on democracy now! the other night. good to have him back!
You should really try participating in a blog-a-tho! I think you'd enjoy it. I don't know about the blog hierarchy thing, but it just might be due to the age thing. I've noticed that a lot more older bloggers tend to use blogger and other blogging services like typepad and wordpress, where lj seems like it's really for the under 25-30 crowd and it's all about "friends lists" and communities, etc. were other blogging sites are more about just writing. I rarely come across anyone over 30 on lj and in turn, I feel like an old lady around here. The different types of bloggers that various blog services attract might be why you don't see lj users contributing to blog-a-thons, but I don't really know.
I'm glad to know Fay Grim is getting good reviews!
Give those Bill Moyer Journal epiosdes a look if you get a chance. I think it's great that Moyers is putting them online so anyone can watch them at anytime.
hahaha, yeah livejournal makes me feel OLD and DUMB. it's bad enough that half my friends list was born in like 1984, but the fact that they're all reading pynchon novels and watching 700 movies a week is particularly humbling. and encouraging, i guess... how does one go about signing up for a blog-a-thon anyway?
I'm going out on a limb here, but I assume these 23 year old who have the luxury of watching 700+ movies a week while reading Pychon novels don't have to worry about working full-time and paying rent and other bills associated with living on your own as an adult like electricity bills, phone bills, healthcare, etc. Hell, I'd bet that they don't even do they're own laundry. I'm not particularly humbled or encouraged by that, just jealous. ;D
You don't need to sign-up for a blog-a-thon. You can just contact whoever is managing one you want to participate in by email or by commenting in their blog once your contribution is done. It's usually a really casual process. Hope that helps! You should give the upcoming "music in movies" blog-a-thon a try. The guy who's running it is very nice.
