Cbus Marathon Race Report

I got up early enough and made it to Nationwide Arena by 7:15a. Parked as close as to the finish as I could get, and even though I had to pay $5, I felt I would thank myself at the end. Walked and jogged to the start where I met up with Mandy and dumped my coat in her office which conveniently was right next to the start line. Watching 10000 high- ( Read more... )

WOW! I am really impressed and inspired. Running has never been my thing, and I can't imagine running/walking 26.2 miles. It was hard for me to speed-walk a 10K... and that's only a little more than 6 miles! How did your body feel when you were done? The parts that were sore? Did you have any damages or was it fatigue?

Who would have thought that a day in October could be a red-flag day (or almost) for a marathon? This weather is crazy!

I was tried and mighty slow in moving on Sunday. I avoided stairs as much as I could because that hurt. I ice my knees after running every single time and I did it after the Marathon and that probably helped. Monday, there was pain in my right ankle and both ball of feet as well as general muscle soreness. I pretty much hobbled all day Monday. On tuesday, the pain was gone and only the muscle soreness remained. No more hobbling.

I think I erred on the side of caution when I walked miles 20 and 21. I had no juice left but seeing people pass me gave me motivation, but it hurt so badly I was afraid to injure myself. As I run more, hopefully, I'll know what I can run through and what I can't. :)

As for running that far, I always wanted to do one, but I never really could find the time because it requires a minimum 12 week commitment. Last April/May, my girlfriend introduced me to this running program on www.coolrunning.com . It's sweet. You start off running for a min and a half, then walking for a min and half, and slowly work your way up to running for the entire 30. It takes about 9 weeks. Once I was done with it, I suddenly realized I just barely had the time to do train for the marathon.

girlfriend? you leave out all the important details! How long, what's her name, do I know her, etc. :D Also is she moving to NY?

The program sounds awesome! I can't believe it.
