Noticed this on the Yahoo news section. Apparently, a historian is referencing some period legal documents as an indication of government / publically sanctioned civil unions between men.

I remember in my high school "American History" class, we were studying "local" native americans in the California area and they appeared to have an acceptable viewpoint on that topic.
