Cutting my relatives out of my life has been one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. Its been years, but the upcoming holidays just reminded me of that moment

It is all about the holidays or Christmas with these relatives! I can relate-- my dad's side of the family is really like that. In addition, VERY religious!

It is indeed unfortunate that one cannot choose one's relatives. I'm personally directly related to a sub-clinical psychopath who has to be avoided, while others are simply just weird.
I haven't cut any out, but I have some where that would probably be a psychologically healthier course of action. I just can't, explicitly, but I have more or less done so unofficially in terms of how much I engage sometimes. There's some suspected mental illness issues where sometimes everything's fine and sometimes it's terrible and the good times are nice but the bad times are baffling. I don't know what your situation is but I feel for you.

I don't even talk to anyone on my side of the family anymore. After my Dad passed away they just ignored me. To me, my family is my husband and kids. We talk to my husband's mom and sisters but they live 3,000 miles away so we never have to see them. I think it's better that way so we don't end up hateing each other.
