(1) Does anyone besides me &
breathingbooks watch Avatar: The Last Airbender? (The delightful TV show, not the big cinema thing, which I still haven't seen.)
(2) I found a ton of books at my favourite annual booksale. It's held in this huge empty hangar that typically stores -- airplanes, I think, and you have to put in a lot of searching but you can get great

Avatar is fantastic. You've seen it all? I was so sad to see it end, the third season was so intricate and detailed and there was so much character growth. Not to mention, so many cool action bending scenes, lol.

Yes! I watched It all in a period of about two weeks, actually. And now it's over. *sigh* The character growth really is amazing (OH ZUKO! OH AANG! :D); one thing I hate about primetime TV, esp. genre shows, which I'm into, is that the writers seem to stomp all over perfectly good characters all the time, & Avatar, this lovely kids' anime, totally kicks ass in the character department, which I love. And the bending scenes, aaaah. <3 I'm thinking of doing a detailed thinky post on it (which honestly will probably end up being more of a flaily squee post, it tends to provoke that reaction in me) -- glad you've seen it! How did you get into it? :)

2) The Door into Fire series is definitely not in print. My girlfriend and local public library both own a copy of the series and my girlfriend wants me to read them. You could, however, probably find it on the internet. Also, have you read Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities?
3) I love Amy's boldness and her quick-thinking and the way she interacts with the Doctor as a buddy. I love River Song and things like that conversation you posted and her general awesomeness. I loved that episode.

I've never read, or even heard of, those novels! Would I enjoy them, do you think? I've always been into the elemental magic thingy -- a lot of my favourite children's books had it, and most of my childhood fantasy worlds had it, too. (And then I developed this entire person-classification theory; personally I am a Water type, but I won't get into that!)
Ooh, can you do me a favour & ask your girlfriend if the series is anything like Duane's other work? I'm not quite sure what to expect from it! And YES; I absolutely adore Invisible Cities, it's probably my favourite Calvino book. ♥
and the way she interacts with the Doctor as a buddy
Yes! There hasn't been nearly enough of that, and I'm looking forward to it.

I think you probably would enjoy them.
I will!
It is oh-so wonderful. You should read Kalpa Imperial by Angelica Gorodischer. It isn't exactly like Invisible Cities but in some ways it has a similar feel.

I've only seen seasons 1 & 2, and am waiting for S2 & 3 to be available in boxed sets over here, but what I've seen I love.
(Didn't read the rest of your post for fear of Dr Who spoilers!)

I'm glad you're watching & enjoying, though. Season three is definitely an emotional roller-coaster, in a good way! :)

Yay for wonderful and cheap book sales! Okay Doctor Who is starting in about two minutes (eight minutes late! and my friend and I have to go to dinner!) but I haven't watched the River Song Episode so I won't spoil myself. :D
Wanted to see how you were doing, dear. I might email you later. ^_^ ♥

That would be wonderful, but only if you have time! I would love to hear from you, I'm going to go catch up on your blog-adventures now. ♥!!
