I know that. And you know, you probably shouldn't call a guy at least tries to figure out something to do for people an asshole. I just feel like the other stuff I do is relatively ineffectual.
I just feel like the only way I can properly express my gratitude for friendship is by getting people stuff.
Maybe you should just try being a FRIEND. And if you're being an asshole, I'm gonna call you an asshole. I'm that way with all my friends. It's called being honest with them.

I guess they are all my friends. And I'm a friend to them. I just run around with a lot of anxiety that I'll do something foolish of selfish or offensive and lose them. My insecurity manifests itself with a need for affirmation and re-assurance.

Your need for affirmation and reassurance is fscking annoying sometimes. It comes off as a lack of trust. You don't believe people when they say you're their friend, so you constantly have to ask again and again. And how can someone trust someone who doesn't appear to trust them?

A person who tries to buy my friendship is not my friend.
A person who likes you for you, who hangs out and has a good time anytime with you, asks for nothing in return, and trusts you, is a friend. When do I ever buy random things for my friends? Sure, I'd love to, but I'm poor and they know that. And I count myself lucky for the mighty fuckload of friends that I have. If they thought I was a bad friend for not being able to give them gifts, they wouldn't be my friends! Christ, WHERE did you ever get such a ridiculous idea?! I have friends now that I've has since I'm in grade school, and I can probably count on one hand the things we've bought for each other over the years. But you know what I have? Cards, letters, notes, drawings, photos, emails, stupid little shit that has sentimental value, etc etc, and not to mention the years and years of memories. That's what makes friends

Actually, I feel really bad about not being over at your place. It seems like right after you moved in you got your second job. I have been wanting to hang out there, but I don't really know your schedule except that it's busy, 60-80 hour work weeks or something crazy like that.
Is that still around or will you have more time at night? I really have wanted to hang out but I don't have a phone number for you at home, and am scared of costing you money for the cell minutes.
I have something to do tonight and thursday but monday I'm free.

See, if you'd call, or something, this'd be cleared up. My second job is pretty much over (note to self: call them and quit) as they haven't given me any hours since x-mas. I don't HAVE a home phone number yet. Text messages always work as they always have, since I receive them for free and only have been telling everyone that for the last two years.
So come hang out at Al's on Monday. We still all do that, you know.
And nice way of avoiding everything I said up there. *thumbs up*

I didn't avoid it. I internalized it, and I do thank you for the advice. I need to stop with the "on" all the time thing for sure.
A lot of it I think comes from the rejection I've gotten over the last year or so, and I do apologize for that. The anime thing is a problem and since you pointed it out to me rather bluntly, I'll take corrective action posthaste.
Also, have you seen Narnia? I was thinking Sunday.
