Summary: Jared is preparing dinner for Colin and he is nervous!
Jared was nervous. Colin and he had spent two days straight in Colin’s hotel room the first and last time they had seen each other. Colin couldn’t stay any longer because of his filming obligations and Jared had understood. They weren’t together and Jared would not come between a man and his job anyhow, he understood how important it was. They had exchanged phone numbers and if he was completely honest with himself he had not expected Colin to call him.
And then one afternoon he had. Jared had been closing the shop up and suddenly his pocket vibrated, with an unknown number on the display. He was completely surprised when he heard Colin’s voice on the other side of the line, telling him that he would come back to New York in a week, and that he would like to meet up.
Jared invited Colin to his place, and offered to cook. He was regretting his invitation because it only served to add to his stress, but at that time it seemed a good idea. Jared had made a chocolate dessert, of a dark bitter chocolate, which he liked best himself. He had ten minutes before Colin was arriving and he wasn’t even dressed yet!
Jared ran around in his small apartment to find an appropriate shirt (blue to bring out his eyes) and a pair of jeans which didn’t have smudges on them. He should begin to wear a uniform when he was at the shop, but he felt best in his jeans. The downside of this was that most of the time all of his jeans were dirty.
Locating one which was wearable, he put on the jeans and quickly buttoned the shirt, before pulling the elastic band out of his hair so that it could flow freely over his shoulders. He knew that he looked fine, a lot of women and even a few men had complimented him on his looks already, but he tried not to hear them, he did not want to lose his concentration to create.
When the buzzer rang, Jared took a deep breath and steadied himself. It was just dinner, nothing more. Just dinner with a guy he liked very much. Okay. He picked up the phone and pushed the button to let Colin in, opening the door for him. It took only a minute for Colin to get up the stairs.
“Hi.” The Irishman smiled, Jared could tell that he was nervous too, that was a good thing. “You look… gorgeous.” Colin added as Jared stepped back to let him in.
“Err… thanks.” Jared replied with a smile as well. “You look great too.”
Colin had brought a bottle of wine with him which Jared put in the fridge for later. Colin in the mean time sat down on the small couch and looked around the apartment. He had been amazed at the courage Jared had by inviting Colin in to his home. Not a lot of people would have done that, just bring a movie star home with them. And then he totally blew Colin away by telling him that he would cook.
“I hope that you like pasta. It’s nothing much but it’s fresh.” Jared said from the kitchen as he mingled the cheese and spinach blend under the pasta and set it on the table. He had also made a small salad to go with it. He invited Colin to sit at the table and Colin sat down, admiring how organised everything looked in the apartment, although he had a suspicion that Jared had cleaned up.
“Your place looks great. It’s small, but you have everything you need closeby, and you are very close to your job. I like it. It looks like a home.” Colin tried to make casual conversation. Jared smiled and nodded.
“You haven’t been home in quite some time, I guess?” Jared asked and Colin sighed deeply, before taking a first bite of his pasta.
“Not in a few months, no. This tastes great, by the way.” Colin commented before taking another bite.
“Yeah, I kind of cheated on this one because I’m vegan. I used cheese for your sauce and soy milk for mine. They taste a little different but I hope that you don’t mind. Or maybe you would like to have some meat, I don’t…” Jared babbled.
“Jared, it tastes very good, with or without meat I would have been very glad with a home cooked meal. Okay? I’m enjoying it.” Colin smiled again and Jared tried his best to relax, nodding again at Colin’s words.
“I’m sorry, I’m just a little nervous. I don’t invite… people over that often and especially not people who I don’t know very well.”
“But you do know me very well.” Colin answered in a lower voice, making Jared laugh.
“Maybe a little.” He then answered, the tension broken. They ate together and Colin complimented Jared again on the dish.
“I hope then that you like the dessert as well.” Jared smiled and he flushed a little when Colin looked at him with dark eyes, before laughing softly. “No, that might be a dessert for later, this really is one I’ve made.” He added and for a second he thought he saw disappointment on Colin’s face, before the Irishman smiled as well.
“I’m sure I will love it. Do you mind if I sit on the couch for a while?” Colin asked as he pointed to the small sofa in front of the tv.
“Sure, I have some work left on the dessert, go ahead. Make yourself at home.” Jared said as he walked into the kitchen. Colin had a mind to follow Jared, hug him close and not let him go. It had been some time since he had such a cosy night together with someone. He felt comfortable and at home like Jared had mentioned.
He propped his feet up on the coffee table, doing like he would at home, and turned on the tv, zapping to some music, which he turned down lower. He closed his eyes and was about to drift off into a slumber when Jared returned from the kitchen with two bowls in his hands. He handed one to Colin and took one for himself, sitting down next to Colin on the couch.
“What is this then?” Colin asked as he blinked a couple of times and looked at the bowl.
“Chocolate mousse, home made. I hope you like it.” Jared smiled. Colin licked his lips and dug in with the spoon which had already been set in the bowl. It tasted heavenly and Colin moaned as he closed his eyes.
“This is way too good. Divine.” He announced as he set the bowl down for a moment and looked Jared in the eyes. He plucked Jared’s bowl from his hands and set it on the coffee table.
“But I can think of something even better…” He murmured then as he cupped Jared’s cheeks and kissed him. First carefully, but when Jared opened his lips Colin did not hesitate to explore Jared’s mouth. He could taste the chocolate on Jared’s tongue and he moaned again. When he pulled back a wide-eyed Jared stared back at him.
“Jared and chocolate, the best combination.” Colin joked as he picked up his bowl again and finished eating. Then he set his bowl down again and looked at Jared.
“Thank you for inviting me tonight, Jared. It really means a lot to me, being invited into someone’s home. It feels like back home in Ireland.” Colin said in an earnest manner as he took Jared’s hand in his.
“I know that we… we don’t know each other well, but…” Colin tried to talk about his feelings, but he had never been good at that. That is why he loved acting, the words of others in his mouth he did not have those difficulties. Living like himself sometimes proved more difficult.
“Hopefully we get the chance. I’m not going anywhere, Colin. I have my shop here and this apartment, I’m not planning on leaving any time soon. You’re welcome here any time.” Jared answered as he squeezed Colin’s hand.
“Wow! I did not see that coming.” Colin laughed.
“I tend to surprise people.” Jared smiled as he ducked his head, his long hair falling over his face, his eyes hidden from sight.
“You do, but always in a good way.” Colin answered. His hands itched to touch Jared, but he did not know if that would be the right choice. What he thought was a one night stand had turned out to so much more.
He kept his head down as well, and did not look up until he felt a hand caress his cheek. Jared looked at him, worry lining his face.
“Do you want to leave? I would understand, I’m guessing you have something better to do then sitting here with me.”
Although Jared smiled at those words, Colin could see that he did not mean them. He wished for nothing more than for Colin to stay, but he didn’t dare to ask.
“Do you want me to leave?” Colin asked and Jared shook his head.
“Not at all. I just thought…”
“Then you were wrong.” Colin answered as he pulled Jared closer, embracing him. They were silent for a few minutes before Jared initiated the kiss.
