The Musings of an Impatient Librarian

Oct 03, 2004 15:08

I tried not to eye the clock on the wall too frequently. It would not do to get myself in a tither over something so paltry. Instead, I focussed on sorting the returns, checking for any dog-ears, defacing, and making note of any late fees I would have to charge for those errant pupils who'd kept my books out too long. Technically they weren't my ( Read more... )

God I hate the British, almost as much as I hate Parents with connection and juvenile delinquents whom I can't seem to expel. Honestly there are days like today that I wished I had taken that job in the maximum-security prison like my brothers did.

After my little encounter with the Summers women I decided to go see Giles, give him a chance to gloat a bit about his favorite student and future guest on the Jerry Springer show aka Miss Summers before I made his life hell again. I would find away to make him pay for.. existing, should not be too hard.

“Rupert Giles.” I said as I walked into the library, enjoying the way the words rolled off my tongue. “Drinking tea I see, all you need is a picture of the Queen and you would be one giant fucking stereotype, wouldn’t you be?”

I rolled my eyes at Snyder's remark.

"Oh how very droll. Unfortunately my picture of the Queen is being reframed. I'll be sure to put it in a prominent place though when it arrives." I continued to sip my tea, trying to be casual and unaffected by his presence.

"So what brings you to the library? Unfortunately there aren't any students here for you to torment at present."

Perhaps that scowl descending on Snyder's face, and the way he was scrunching up his beady little eyes meant that Buffy had indeed defeated his attempts to keep her out of school.

"No students? Big shock, it is a good thing you are not paid on a commission Rupert because I don't think I have ever seen a student in here besides a delinquent and her misguided friends.” I said moving closer to the smug self satisfied Brit. “This is really a waste of tax dollars, this pathetic excuse for a library. Honestly if I had my way I would make it into another gym. However you know some parents would complain and I even think the school board would take issue with it.” I shake my head; god things would be much better around here if I did not have to deal with parents ( ... )

"So my job for you Rupert, and yes you might actually have to do some work, is to take an inventory of all the books you have here and defend why we should keep them, and well, you in turn. You do not need to, I am sure we could find some bored house wife who would gladly take your job and perhaps even do better at it.”"Take an inventory? In the middle of the first term, are you mad?" I exclaimed, setting down my teacup with indignation. Then I shrugged and snorted at him. "Well, clearly that goes without saying. Let me rephrase that again. Are you aware of how much time such an undertaking would take? The disruption to the students and to- Oh, I see. I'm being punished. You couldn't take it out on Buffy and so you are taking it out on me ( ... )

I arrived just in time, just after Mien Furor had left. Giles probably knew, knew I was re-admitted, Giles was smart like that. Mom was following me, she was relieved that I had been re-admitted, I think she wanted to tell Giles the good news, or wanted to be there when I told him the good news.

"Hey Giles." I say as I enter the library, for a second I see a flash of anger on his face but that expression disappears when he spots me. "I see Snyder was just here, so you must know what that means." I said with a smile, I was still not happy with Giles, still annoyed with how he betrayed me but I did not need to drag mom into our drama, she had enough to deal with. She was still struggling with the whole Slayer issue, still struggling with the fact I had sex with a vampire.. god no thinking of Angel, not now.

I followed Buffy from the meeting with Mr Snyder through to meet Mr Giles. It was nice to see Buffy wanting to run to tell another teacher that she was back in class, rather than joining her friends.

"Hi Mr Giles, it's nice to see you again." I smiled at him, and shifted my bag around on my shoulder. It was nice to see him again - he's been such a great role model for Buffy and the other kids. But after everything that happened over summer, I wasn't too sure about exactly what his relationship was with them all. I noticed that he didn't look too comfortable, or pleased, about the situation. We'd noticed Sny...Mr Snyder leave as we came in. Had they been arguing over my daughter? I shifted my bag again, no longer feeling entirely relaxed about Buffy's readmission.

"Buffy. Mrs Summers." I greeted, trying to put a smile on my face. I *was* pleased to see them both, and obviously the meeting with Snyder had gone in their favor. However, my earlier run in with the principal had cast a pall on things. I had a feeling that his little stunt with the library inventory was only the start of his petty revenge on us all for defying him. It didn't put me in a very celebratory mood.

"Yes, I-I-I suspect that his pinched face would indicate either chronic constipation or peevishness at your readmittance. I'm opting for the latter. So I take it it went well, and you are now once again a bonafide student of Sunnydale High?"

"Much bonafide I would say, well actually I don't think bonafide really is in my vocabulary but for the sake of this sentence, yes I would say I am a bonafide student." I try and smile, Mom still has no idea, and Giles, well he has a clue but I am hopping that is all he has, a clue.

“So what shall we do to celebrate, I voted for pizza and perky put golf but Mom reminded me that I was not five anymore. So I figured the next best thing is for us to start training again because as my watcher” I looked over at my mom, she was being all supportive of my slayerness lately but I wanted to see how far I could push it. “that is your job.”
