[ooh, he knows all about this one!]

What sort of romance novel? And is there a particular aspect you want advice on, or just general tips?

But of course~ I am greatly experienced in the area of romance novels. Or at least, of reading good ones.

Are you familiar with the genre at all?

I have absolutely no experience. :D

It sure feels nice to have a pro teach me!

Well, you might try reading a few to get a feel for what they're usually like. The libraries here have a fairly good selection, though they're all Pokemon-themed ( ... )

Wow, Yuushi. That's a lot of stuff yougot there. I'll keep every one of them in mind, of course.

But it seems a bit difficult to mesh fantasy with reality though. Got any specific tips on that?

Glad to be of help! (*・▽・)/

Oh, do you want it to have a fantasy theme?

I meant that character thing where you have to make them realistic, yet fantastic.

How about a fluffy beginning that slowly spirals to a tragedy?

That's basically just balancing your character traits. For the reader to empathize with the character, they can't be TOO fantastic or it'll become obvious that they aren't a real person. You have to also give the characters enough flaws to trick the reader into thinking they're human while they read. The trick is to find a good balance.

That could work quite well~

But that might be the thing.

What makes people human? Other than appearances, of course.

That's the big question philosophers have been debating about for centuries.

For writing purposes, it mostly means that your characters can't be too perfect. They have to be suseptible to a least a few of the same flaws an everyday person might have.

So there has to be an equal balance of flaws and perfection?

Yes, precisely.

But as they say, perfection is imperfection.

Wow, this is going to be a lot harder than I thought. .___.;

Luckily romance is a genre where you can get away with a few imperfections that might be more noticeable in other kinds of books. I'm sure you'll be fine~
