Burning "Woman"? wanton_heat_jet October 6 2009, 14:06:17 UTC
Yeah, it's a bit of a disconnect for there to be a post-post-modern arts festival with a pre-women's-lib name. It tweaks my PC sensibilities.

"Burning Woman" makes me think of Indian widows jumping onto their late husbands' pyres, perhaps with a little boost from in-laws.

Maybe they could use the genus name of our species, Latin for "man," but then that would be Burning Homo (or "Flaming Homo"?). That doesn't work great, either.

The official name is Black Rock Arts Festival, so there's at least a PC alternative.

Energy is not an illusion anonymous October 27 2009, 18:32:44 UTC
Energy is not just body language non-believer. I don't know what etheric means but I can feel your look.

Life IS energy; a tangible, measurable combination of electricity, hormones and life force. If you can scientifically explain how a static shock can pass from one person to another, why is it such a reach to accept that conscious beings have and transmit energy? This concept seems more tangible than tuning in an inanimate radio station. We need energy to live, breathe, love and hope.

You sir, are a FOOL.
