So far this has been a really good hiatus and I've been thinking about the role I want Scrabble to play in my life. I really like the game of Scrabble, and interesting positions truly captivate me...I LOVE LOVE LOVE discussing them and trying to find the best move. As someone who is also in a period of tournament hiatus, let me encourage you (as everyone else is) to not completely drop the game. Like Carl said, there's nothing wrong temporarily placing it at lower importance while you're in school. I've done the same thing here during my final year of classes. To be fair though, I've also placed it at lower importance because of sport-specific training that uses up the money I would use for tournaments instead ( ... )

As I have said, I am certainly not going to drop the game completely. I definitely want to continue playing in clubs, and I might cut short this artificially imposed hiatus to do so. I find that I also play better and think more deeply in casual games than in tournaments, and I like playing at a high-level, because there is just more to think about. A lot of the point of this post is to express my general dislike of the heavily competitive tournament environment.
