[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Slade (AKA Slade Wilson or Deathstroke the Terminator)
FANDOM: Teen Titans (animated verse)
CHRONOLOGY: Season One, episode 13 (Apprentice Part II)
BACKGROUND: Slade comes from the animated verse of the Teen Titans and is the most frequently appearing, if not the main antagonist for most of the series. However, he differs significantly from his comicverse counterpart as he is depicted as a criminal mastermind instead of mercenary. Also, since no background information on Slade is given in the show, I'm going to be borrowing some elements of his comic backstory just so there's a springboard for me to go off of with his character. For now, suffice to say that he's ex-military, who also dabbled in mercenary work for a while (his teacher was Natas, just like in the comics) under a false alias before deciding he wanted to do something more with his life. From there, he began to cultivate a criminal empire, an enterprise facilitated not only by his genius but also his incredible knowledge of robotics and military, political, and subversive strategy. Then, having solidified his position in the underworld with nearly unlimited resources, various secret hideouts, and an army of robots, he turned his attentions to other matters, and it is at the peak of his power that he first enters the lives of the Teen Titans.
The show itself is divided into five seasons, and Slade appears the most in the first two and the fourth seasons while making brief, one-episode cameo appearances in the third and fifth seasons. In the first season, his main goal isn't revealed until the Episode 12 (Apprentice) when he informs Robin that all the trouble he's been sending the Teen Titans' way has been his way of testing them, Robin in particular, in order to find a suitable apprentice. He also states that Robin is the perfect candidate, and Slade does manage to recruit him for a short time before he is defeated by the collective efforts of the Titans. Slade appears next in season two, apparently still obsessed with the idea of having an apprentice as he manages to turn Terra to his side and then use her to infiltrate and later try to destroy the Titans. However, he is soundly defeated at the end of the series and apparently sinks into a pit of lava created by Terra's power.
Slade doesn't appear again in the flesh until season four when he is working with Raven's demon father Trigon in order to bring about the end of the world. However, he is betrayed by Trigon and then joins the Titans in an effort to stop him and recover the flesh and blood body he no longer has. After that, Slade pretty much drops out of the series until the final episode when one of a robot double of his appears and taunts Beast Boy about the alive, but apparently amnesiac Terra.
All in all, Slade, despite his comparatively numerous appearance, is a highly mysterious character, which will be maintained in this incarnation of him since I'm not familiar with comicverse canon beyond what I've read on wiki. For characters related to him (such as Ravager), it's highly unlikely that he will ever reveal himself to them (at least not on purpose), and if he does, that's something I'll attempt to work out with other muns.
PERSONALITY: Slade, to put it simply, is a bastard. A very brilliant one, who (according to comic canon) can use 90% of his brain*, but at the end of the day, he's no one you'd ever want to meet.
A veritable genius with incredible knowledge of robotics and miltiary, political, and subversive strategy, as well as some understanding of ceremonial magic, Slade will do and use anyone or anything in order to win and stay on top. He is ruthless, cold, and calculating, and has the ability to maintain his composure even in the worst situations. There is little he fears, if anything, and he rarely (if ever) displays emotion, though when he does, it is usually in the form of rage or dark, almost deadpan humor. Slade's most distinguishing characteristic in the animated series, however, is that he is a master of psychology and manipulation, which allows him to maneuver his enemies into doing almost anything he wants. Because of this, Slade is a very shadowy character, and it isn't uncommon for him to use others to fight his battles for him or to send robotic clones of himself to fight on his behalf.
Despite this, Slade is actually an incredibly skilled fighter and displays superior strength and fighting techniques to Robin's every time they meet. There isn't a single instance in the series when Robin manages to get the best of him singlehandedly - or at least not for long - and it's something he constantly taunts Robin with. "A few more years of training, and you might actually be a threat," he says once. Thus, much like his comicverse counterpart, there is only one who could most likely match him in one-on-one combat, and that is Batman himself.
All of that being said, Slade is dangerous - a man with no scruples or morals who delights in putting those who DO have them into compromising positions (God help them). Also, once he claims something as his, he will never, ever let go.
CLASS: Villain. He will dispose of his dogtags as soon as possible.
SUPERHERO NAME: Odysseus.
ALTER EGO: Daniel Slater. He will work for a small business corporation in matters of transportation and build the identity from scratch. It'll have a DOB, a social security number, everything you can think of to make him seem to be a part of this world. Naturally, he will not disclose his fake (or real) name over the comms and only refer to himself by his chosen alias. Also, it is worth mentioning that he will never use the voice function of his communicator, knowing that it may help his enemies recognize him.
POWER: In the animated series, Slade has no powers beyond his incredible skills as a fighter. The only time he DOES have powers is during season four after he's been recruited by the demon Trigon. So, to make things a little interesting, I will be toning down the abilities he received then for use in C&C. Basically, he will be able to create and manipulate fire and use it for offensive and defensive purposes. Also, bouncing off the idea that he can use 90% of his brain as opposed to 10%*, Slade will be given the ability to use his mind over matter. This power will be restricted to his body only, and it will enable to him to (if he concentrates) feel no pain when struck in battle and to influence how fast his body recovers from a successful blow - i.e. he will literally be able to force his body to heal faster (though it won't be as fast as regeneration by someone like Wolverine by any means), snap broken bones back into place, and build up defense mechanisms to poisons or external agents such as sleeping gas so long as he remains focuses enough to do so.
*NOTE: I am aware that this 90% v. 10% theory has been debunked. I'm just using it as an analogy to show how scary his brainpower is compared other people's.
COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE: Well. I can't really say I was expecting a vacation, but I guess not everything goes according to plan.
However, this is most...inconvenient. Being transported to another world is hardly my idea of a 'good day'. All my resources, all my power...my apprentice...have apparently remained in the world I left behind. An unfortunate turn of events, indeed.
Still, new beginnings can be made. This city is in chaos, the criminal underworld as much as everything else. I will bring order where there is none and in so doing establish myself as the power here. I will restore to myself what I have lost.
And that includes you...Robin.
THIRD PERSON: It's late, some ungodly hour the morning when only insomniacs or the otherwise driven should be awake. He's never been the former, but always the latter, within reason. Yes. Always reason.
He leans forward, fingers steepled as he stares at the screen. It's small, a moderate 17-inch screen--hardly what he's used to but when in a strange place one must make do and adapt. He excels at this and always has. It wasn't for nothing that he was labeled a tactical genius when he worked abroad. However, those days are long since behind him, and now he only wishes regain what he once had. It's only been a week, but he already dislikes this place. The criminals here are worthless, and the so-called 'heroes' aren't much better. A shame how all of them lack vision.
There is one he does have his eye on, though--one who stands out from all the rest. It surprised him, honestly, and that was a rare feat indeed. Apparently, this place was stranger than even he had initially anticipated. That there were three people who had all carried the same title was an interesting bit of news. It also complicated matters since none of them appeared to be from his world. They aren't his--at least not yet.
All things in good time, however. The first order of business is to establish himself in this pathetic excuse for a city. He doesn't anticipate having too much trouble with the criminal underworld. Cowards, the lot of them, and all lacking a particular...finesse. That will soon change, though--he'll see to it personally. And once he has a firm foothold, his influence established, he will turn his attention towards acquiring the other object he's lost. After all, he still needs an apprentice--someone to carry on in his footsteps. He had one in his world, and he sees no reason why the same shouldn't be true for this one. The only difference now is that he has three to choose from. Only one will be chosen, and he's already fairly certain which one he wants.
He smiles behind his mask, musing aloud, voice smooth like oil and just as potent. "So much to do and so little time. We'll be seeing each other soon, though...Robin III."
