It was probably Bad and also Wrong to read Dean's texts. Probably. But Sam had kind of grown up in the middle ground; 'probably' was much like 'maybe' in that it meant, well, it might also be a good thing to read Dean's texts. Under certain circumstances.
Like when Sam was being kept awake because someone in the room was a deep sleeper and could actually ignore the periodic bleep his stupid mobile phone made when it received stupid texts at stupid o'clock in the morning. Especially given Dean never bothered to read the texts, as far as Sam could tell.
So. It was probably wrong. But on the other hand, it was read through the texts to shut off that bleep and get a decent night's sleep, or ignore them and eventually kill Dean after going stark raving mad.
