Dean was the only person catching anyone's eye the next time they met up with Castiel, and if Sam was even tenser than usual around Castiel, he could blame it on... well, most anything, given they hadn't really had any chance to have more than five civil words face to face yet.
Still, as unintentionally clingy as Dean could be with Castiel, Sam still wound up alone with the angel, both of them staring at their shoes and finding things to preoccupy their hands with, like twiddling thumbs or scratching non-existent itches.
Two minutes into Dean's trip for breakfast and Sam finally figured; what the Hell.
