Happiness Is...

...a cottage of our own!

It's nice when a bunch of friends conspire to get you into a great home.

After a year of planning to live in a particular place, the owners discovered, at T-30 days, that they could not rent due to a clause in their mortgage contract. Refinancing would have necessitated an unreasonable rental rate. Aargh! We had to hit the streets.

Fezzeaux, LaLa and I had a stressful week of looking for potential residences. Mostly they were not quite what we wanted. Also we got lots of odd stares, as if three adult women living together were something unheard of. (smirk)

The first one I looked at was a crappy little bungalow. It had cardboard-thin walls (not exaggerating), lousy layout of small rooms, barely any ambient light, and on top of all that, was strewn with filth. A plain white box, entirely cased in aluminum. White aluminum.

On Tuesday we looked at an older home on the north side. Nice on the outside, with an impressive yard. But four college guys live there. This house had the worst accoutrement I can think of pairing with four dudes: a
carpeted bathroom. The whole upstairs smelled like archived dude secretions. Lordy, no.

We decided we could only rent that place if they would come down by $300 on the rent and let us remodel most of it. (ie, if we became desperate) I had a dream that night that I was stuck in a dingy dude house, kind of like an indoor alley strewn with beer bottles and dirty clothes, and I couldn't find my way out.

So yesterday we got to see the Dream Cottage. Two friends called to notify us of its availability the same day F and I (separately) discovered the flyer at the food co-op. It is a cutesy little warm grey home surrounded by thousands of perennial plantings. It has a nice deck on the back. It's tiny inside, but oh-so-cute. Since it has a full, dry basement, we think we can make it work. To top it off, two nice dykes are the property managers. And it's in the same area we were looking at to begin with: lined with mature trees, adorable homes, and quiet neighbors.

We are pretty happy with the place. Since it doesn't have much room, we won't have to buy much furniture. It's at the low end of our price range. They're okay with kitties and schmuppy. We can move in mid-July (major plus!).

Last night, for the first time in a very long time, I dreamed that I was flying.
