Wes was nervous. He had worked hard with Kurt on their plans for this. Valentine's Day and a birthday in one? That really just wasn't fair, he thought to himself. He was smiling as he walked around the Met with Sierra, Blaine, and Kurt. His beloved, his soon to be brother in law, and his soon to be, well, what was Kurt. Also a brother in law? He wasn't too sure. Either way, labels didn't matter to him. Family did. These people were more than just friends to him. Yes, he sometimes grew a little sentimental, but he couldn't help himself. He was in love.
The ring was in his pocket. While it was just a ring, an inanimate object, it was more than that to Wes. He felt like the ring was burning a hole in his pocket and that it might fall out at any time. His hand kept slipping into his pocket, checking to make sure it was still there. Occasionally, he gazed over at Kurt, wanting to know when they should start their plan.
The plan was that they would make their way through the Met, enjoying the day. About halfway through their visit, they would enter one room and Kurt would give him a signal. All the people he had asked to help from NYADA would already be there. Kurt had to give the signal, because honestly, he had no clue what these people looked like. Only Kurt would know who they were.
Kurt had tried to tell Wes that it was his day, but Wes would have none of that. They would sing together. Then, they would give their gifts together. The four of them were going to spend the rest of their lives together. What better way to start then today.
He grinned as he saw Kurt give him the signal. Suddenly, a few of the NYADA people started to gather in the middle of the room. As the first few bars were sang, Kurt and Wes broke away from their loves to join in. Turning to face them, they began to sing together on
Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden. Wes took the first verse, because it was his idea. Kurt took the second. Each one serenaded their love, dancing with the other NYADA students and just losing themselves in the song. The feelings they felt came through with every word, every note.
When the song was over, Wes moved over to Sierra and pulled the box out of his pocket. He had looked at so many rings he thought his eyes would explode. Finally, he'd gone with a ring Blaine had showed him. It was a beautiful
promise ring that he hoped Sierra really loved. It was everything Blaine had said, everything Sierra was. Simple. Romantic. And it had her birthstone.
"Sierra, I love you. And while I... We're not ready yet for something big, we... We have so many things we still want to do with our lives, I want to promise you this. I promise that I will love you forever. I promise that I will always stand by you, no matter what. I love you, Sierra. And someday, I hope you will wear my name as well as this ring."
