What a wonderful new way to increase the divides among classes!

Please cover your shoes when you enter my home, you dirty working brute!

I don't object to the principle. It is a filthy occidental habit to tramp the dirt of the street into a house and I don't like having shoes worn in my flat either. I was more bemused by the phrase boot mitts, I think.

Or indeed the concept of asking some bloke - who is probably in a rush - if he would kindly put his boot mitts on. I can't even imagine saying the words "boot mitts". I'd probably call them "shoe things".
