My first customer review on Amazon US. Three stars and a concluding paragraph which says: "The downside of "The Big Necessity" is that its anecdotal nature makes it difficult for readers to sometimes place facts into perspective, and some of the facts seem misstated ( Read more... )

What did you think about her weak ground / biosolids criticism? I felt like leaping to your defence, but then thought for a moment that maybe she's right.

she's right about being categorically convinced that it's safe? If that's what you mean I don't think she's right. My point was that we don't have enough experience and have not had enough time to know whether all those metals and pharmaceuticals and chemicals mixed together and spread on fields is a good idea. It's not logical to think otherwise. I don't think it was weak ground. and when i googled her i noticed that she used to work for the LA wastewater department. so doh of course she supports biosolids.

i'm very excited to read your book. i am an acquaintance of rhodri's in that i met him once in the states while he was playing in baltimore (where i live), and through his journal found yours. i have just ordered your book through amazon US and am extremely enthused for its delivery. i hope you are doing well (which, i realize, always sounds strange from someone you don't know). i very much enjoyed your blog about the process of researching the book. as funny as poop jokes are, people's sensitivity about and vulnerability in the moments of waste elimination are fascinating to me.

i forget my livejournal ID and password, but you can find me at http://kristintracy.diaryland.com

cheers (as you all like to say),
kristin

thanks for buying it. the US press reaction has been great; very flattering. One thing though - I loathe the word "cheers" except on drinking occasions. But I know that makes me a British minority...

I thought it superb, so good that I bought A Life Removed and read that too. Sadly I had to buy the latter 2nd-hand so not helping with the forty degrees below bank accounts. Sorry about that.

my goodness. A life removed! Thank you very much. I have 300 copies in storage; could have saved you £3 or so. I am very proud of that book and I am very touched that you read it. the bank accounts are back to temperate levels, thankfully.

Crossing Continents on Radio Four this morning had some heartbreaking stuff about child trafficking in Liberia.

Have you given much thought to the subject matter of opus three?
