Tomorrow marks one month until our baby's estimated due date. We are at the point now where the variation between the likely earliest, two weeks from now, and very latest, six weeks, seems quite large. It is pretty amazing to think that between about mid-July and August 10 that we will have a kid. We have concluded the Birthing preparation classes ( Read more... )

They induced me with a membrane sweep one day before a full week after the due date. Honestly, though, I'm not sure that wasn't part of the problem of her getting stuck during birth. If I do it again and need induced, I certainly will go about things differently. But mostly I don't know that induction was the right option.

And don't worry about names. Gabe and I was still discussing on Anwen's name for a few hours after she'd been born. Gabe liked Arwyn and I didn't think it fit her at all. Apparently the hat made a difference in our perception. Part of the issue for us was we didn't like any of the nicknames for either Arwen or Anwen, and then my mom decided that Wendi was a good nickname and Gabe was okay with that. I happen to think Penny is a cute name, and Penelope as well. It's got a great literary meaning. But if you go with something else, that will also be great. Don't worry.

What do you think would have been the right option?

Well, I think since it was my first pregnancy, induction was premature. I have a feeling that if I had waited she may have been in a better position from the beginning of labor. As it was she was facing sideways and tilted/bent at the neck (I forget the actual term for it- I looked it up after birth which is the only reason I know what position she was in since no one translated it for me which was frustrating.) with her chin at an upwards angle. And because of the tilt they couldn't adjust her.. More time might have given her a better chance to be properly positioned.

However, from a different perspective I also had a very, very long labor and looking back I would have chosen to hasten it with Pitocin sooner had I known how long was going to be. But I progressed very, very slowly - unusually so. I had no way of knowing that before hand.
