Agreed! While initially I didn't care for the score (having heard it only in 128kbps mp3) when I purchased the CD (and created 320kbps rip from it for my iPod) I fell in love with it. It took me about six time through the score to really get it down.
I'm with you on Excelsior! though. I was listening to it yesterday in the car on the way in to work and had the same reaction.
I have not seen the movie yet, but I have plans to purchase the DVD the day it is released - I've heard its fantastic!
I think the album programming makes a big difference. It really sounded like more of the same in the film itself, but on record it is much more propulsive. Certainly an improvement over the messy assembly that was the Batman Begins CD.
It's interesting how much of the score is built around that "Will Is Everything" piece, which was kept to a minimum on the original CD.
The Dark Knight is certainly a day-and-date Blu-ray purchase for me, though I feel no need to double dip with my Batman Begins HD-DVD... I actually think the cover art works better with the brown case. I'm curious to see what they will do with the next installment.
This album is much better as a complete listen, though there are parts of Batman Begins that still our my favorite. Some parts of Batman Begins just annoys me.
My second viewing of this show was with my Chiropractor (good friend too). He read speculations of Angelina Jolie being Cat Woman, or Johnny Depp as the Riddler. I think Depp would be great since he has a history of playing people that are a little bit weird. Jolie -- I think she would bring too much baggage to the role.
I have noticed that I key into different things when listening in the car then when I am listening at work. I haven't given it a run on my home stereo yet. Thanks for the nudge on this soundtrack.
I already anxiously await your review of the movie. I keep hoping you will change your mind and see it in the theater.
