Interesting, it sounds like an old tv show from Canada. It was called 'the Star Lost' written by Harlan Ellison, who was so disgusted at the editing that was done to his ideas, he adopted the pseudonym "Cordwainer Bird."

I remember vaguely (I was under 10) seeing a couple of episodes -- it was an ark in space and the heroes/heroines moved through the different "worlds" trying to reach the "bridge."

They don't move through different worlds, but their planet is dying and they live in a domed city attached to this giantic mecha which was suppose to carry them off the planet and to another world. There was sort of a war that ensued between the two races and one race won and enslaved the other and you know how that goes...
