Warehouse 13 Playlists
So, I was bored and waiting for the start of the new season, and I thought, why not make a mini-soundtrack for every episode of the season (thank goodness SyFy only ordered 12 episodes!) I decided to put down only five songs for every epi., because for some I could think up 20 songs, and for some I could only think up one. Also, to make it more challenging, I didn't let myself put down any of the songs that were in the actual epi. in the playlists (so no White Rabbit, sorry).
Just for safety's sake, I don't own Warehouse 13 or the songs on the playlists.
While this is a playlist, I don't have the zip files. Sorry.
So, review and tell me what you think!
Warning: Spoilers for the entire Season 1
Pilot
The pilot was fairly easy to make a soundtrack for, and I decided to center it around Myka and Pete's discovery of the warehouse and their integration into it.
1. It's the End of the World As We Know It - R.E.M
This song kind of speaks for itself as far as how it relates to the pilot: Myka and Pete's definition of the world is about to be put into a tailspin, and there's really no going back. Plus, I loved the fast tone of the song, which sounds like the singer is barely keeping up. I think that's what Myka and Pete would have felt like.
2. Can't Take It In - Imogen Heap
I heard this one on the Narnia soundtrack and fell in love with it. One of my favorite things about it is the mystical, light tone that seems magical itself. Again, the title speaks for itself - really talks about the warehouse this time and how Myka and Pete feel about it.
3. Supermassive Black Hole - Muse
Honestly, I have a take it or leave it attitude when it comes to Muse songs. Some I love, others I can't stand. It's kind of the odd man out on this little playlist because the lyrics don't fit perfectly, but I loved the odd tone of the song, and added it in.
4. Everything's Magic - Angels and Airwaves
This has got to be one of my favorite songs of all the playlists here, it's just a happy song. Very upbeat and makes you want to get up in dance. Seriously, if you don't listen to any other song here, listen to this one.
5. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
Not much to say for this one, because if you haven't heard it by now, where have you been?!
Resonance
Resonance was a pretty easy playlist to put together, it was hard at the beginning, but the songs just started coming. Most of these center around Marsden, because we hadn't gotten that much info on Myka and Pete's pasts yet.
1. Into the Ocean - Blue October
I used this song to describe Marsden's dreamlike, reality-less state. I liked how the lyrics kept referring to drowning, which is what I thought Marsden was doing - drowning in his own thoughts and dying because of the lack of reality.
2. Comatose - Skillet
I really adore the orchestra and rock blend that this song combines, so I wanted to have a place to put it on one of my playlists. I listened to it and realized that it perfectly described Marsden's departure from reality because of the loss of this music and daughter, and how she was the only thing that could bring him back to reality.
3. Fortress Around Your Heart - Sting
This song was used to describe both Myka and Marsden's situations, and how they had kept themselves from the people they loved: Myka's father and Marsden's daughter.
4. Be My Escape - Reliant K
Again, another Marsden and his daughter song. Well, is it my fault if the lyrics seem to fit perfectly!
5. Memories - Within Temptation
I just want to say that Within Temptation is one of my favorite bands, and while this song fits less well lyrics wise, the eerie tone that the song gives off helps the episode. It could apply to Marsden's memories of his daughter, his daughter's memories of him, Myka's memories of her father, and Artie's past memories that we see in the very end of the episode.
Magnetism
Probably the playlist that centers itself more around the artifact than anything else.
1. Touch You Right Now - Basic Element (Featuring D-Flex)
I put this one here for the scene where ambulance driver tries to feel Myka up, and she takes him down. I thought it was such a hilarious scene that it deserved its own song.
2. We Are - Ana Johnsson
I liked how the lyrics referred to "white picket fences" and "seeing the devil on your back" thereby referencing the small town and the temptations that they give into.
3. How to Save a Life - The Fray
I chose this song because of how it's about the hidden demons inside everyone, which is the main focus point of this episode. I loved the lyric "you say sit down it's just a talk" which makes me think of the artifact of the episode - the malfunctioning chair that people talk to the priest in, and which inspires people to act up.
4. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
This song is actually about the artifact (yes, I based an entire song around the chair, lol), and how it exposes the secrets of the townspeople.
5. Dirty Little Secret - All American Rejects
I'm not very subtle in choosing some of my songs. ;)
Claudia
This was one of the easiest playlists to put together, partly because Claudia's character's goal is so single-minded (to get Joshua back) that it was easy to chose songs for her, partly because I really, really like depressing songs.
1. I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab For Cutie
The song's soft tone was a nice contrast to the lyrics about death. In my mind, this song perfectly shows Claudia's determination to get Joshua back - or die with him.
2. Until the Day I Die - Story of the Year
This song switches between Claudia's desire to help Joshua, and her hatred for Artie. This harsh tone and lyrics seems appropriate for Claudia's state of mind at the time.
3. Never Alone - Barlow Girl
Such a beautiful and haunting song, this one talking about Claudia's bond with her brother's "ghost" so to speak, and how even though it goes against all logic, she still believes that he's real.
4. Haunted - Kelly Clarkston
This song's odd, off tone beginning really helps bring out the creepiness of the episode, and it highlights Claudia's need for Joshua.
5. Somewhere - Within Temptation
Another Within Temptation song (because they are purely awesome) and because it again shows Claudia's dedication to getting Joshua back.
Elements
The. Hardest. Playlist. EVER. This might have been because I disliked the main plot (I thought the villain was waaaay too cheesy with his lines and overacted), so I didn't have much of a plot to go on. I mainly focused on the subplot of Claudia deciding to stay at the warehouse.
1. The Reason - Hoobastank
This is purely a Claudia song, and her desire to change for the better for the warehouse and Artie.
2. In the Shadows - Rasmus
An action song for the episode, and it links back to Claudia finally finding the place where she can fully be herself and take full control of her abilities - the warehouse.
3. Unwell - Matchbox 20
Another Claudia song (is it my fault I found the main plot kind of boring?!) about Claudia's issues with pushing Joshua to make something of himself, and trying to change for the better so she can stay at the warehouse.
4. First Date - Blink 182
Just a cute little song for Myka and Jeff's date in the cafeteria.
5. Elements - A Fine Frenzy
Really? Does this really need an explanation?
Burnout
One of my favorite playlists to put together, I used a mix of alternative songs to mirror the action of this episode, and yet the sad message that the episode gave us - that the warehouse, while fun, is more than just a regular job.
1. Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright
A very depressing song for a pretty depressing (but still completely awesome!) episode.
2. Live and Let Die - Guns and Roses
I used a James Bond song for Pete's 5 second death. He would approve.
3. Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
Used for the tragic pairing of Jack Secord/Rebecca Sinclair.
4. Life is Beautiful - SIXX:A.M.
The urgent tone of this song and the lyrics "Do you swear on your life/That no one will cry at my funeral/" really make for a great song for this ep.
5. Get Out Alive - Three Days Grace
Relates back to what Rebecca said to Myka at the end of the episode. Plus, Three Days Grace needs some love.
Implosion
This was one of the hardest eps. to make a playlist for (maybe because the entire time I was watching the ep. I was going "Where's Claudia, Show?" Yes, I talk to my TV, and no, that's not weird at all ;) )
1. Over My Head (Cable Car) - The Fray
This song applies to poor Myka, who just needs to know the truth. It could also relate back to Artie, and his search to prove it really is MacPherson.
2. Take a Bow - Muse
This song just pretty much defines MacPherson and how evil he is, at least in Artie's eyes by this point in the series.
3. So Cold - Breaking Benjamin
This song's viewpoints switch back and forth: in the beginning, when they talk about sticking together, I envision Myka and Pete in this episode, but when the song continues and gets darker, I can see it being from MacPherson's viewpoint to them.
4. Time is Running Out - Muse
Yes, I know, too much Muse! Last one out of all the playlists, I promise. This song is from Artie's viewpoint to MacPherson.
5. Burn - Three Days Grace
Again, another Artie to MacPherson song, since the episode is mainly about them. Actually, this one could also be from MacPherson to Artie.
Duped
This playlist has so many songs on it from so many different genres is because it comes from so many different perspectives. From Alice in Myka's body, from Myka in the mirror, from the gang back at the wareheouse, and Pete with Alice.
1. My Body is a Cage - Arcade Fire
Awesome, kind of creepy song about how Myka's body is being used against her.
2. Alice - Cocteau Twins
Very mysterious and out there, but beware, it's very, very hard to make out the lyrics. They don't fit as well as I wish they would, but the tone is appropriate for the episode, and I love the mystical feel it adds.
3. Little House - The Fray
Talks about the pent-up rage issues that Alice has. Really, really pent-up.
4. Bang Bang Boom - The Moffatts
I wanted to add a funny little song from Pete's point of view when he first sees Myka, and his view on her kissing him.
5. Skeptics and True Believers - The Acadamy Is...
This song touches on everyone back in the warehouse and their thoughts on whether the Myka in the mirror is real or not, and Myka's thoughts (namely towards Artie as they debate about it).
Regrets
Like with “Claudia”, this was so easy to do because of my love for depressing songs and for how upfront the plot was. No Claudia/Artie subplot song on here, sorry.
1. The Truth About Heaven - Armor For Sleep
I like this song for the epi. because it takes such a pure concept, and turns it around on its head, which is pretty much the concept of this epi. When people think of their deceased, they hope that they're in a better place, not haunting and taunting them. No, I didn't plan for it to rhyme, it just did.
2. Angels - Within Temptation
I will not apologize for my Within Temptation love (it's not an addiction, I can stop anytime I want!) I love this song for this epi., such an amazing song about good being used for evil.
3. I Miss You - Blink-182
I would have put this song in the playlist purely for the line "angel from my nightmares" even if it wasn't a great song that went so well with this epi.
4. My Immortal - Evenascence
I love this band, but every time I listen to this song, I just want to shut the blinds and curl up under the blankets. Still, it goes well with the epi.
5. Who Knew? - Pink
Another majorly depressing song, but it's disguised by being catchy. Evanscence doesn't even pretend.
Breakdown
Truthfully, this was the most fun playlist to put together, because this was the most fun epi. of the season. I basically put together a bunch of upbeat and happy songs to show Myka, Pete and Claudia goofing off in the warehouse (and nearly getting blown up, but that’s not as much fun).
1. Here We Go Again - O.K. Go
Well, there's another disaster in the warehouse! Better go fix it! And, yeah, that's basically why I chose the entire song. Simple, but, hey, it's a simple episode.
2. Die Another Day - Madonna
The title kind of speaks for itself. Plus, this Madonna version was so much fun to listen to I couldn't resist.
3. Never Let You Down - The Verve Pipe
A nice friendship song between the three about each other and the warehouse.
4. With a Little Help From My Friends - The Beetles
With a Little Help From My Friends, I'll stop the warehouse from blowing up! It's catchy, no?
5. Human - The Killers
This is the only Artie and Regents song I put on there, because I felt that there needed to be at least one song for them on there. This song is from Artie's perspective as he is put on trial in front of the Regents, and then is set free to hunt MacPherson.
Nevermore
This is a pretty straightforward playlist since there's not really a subplot for this episode - this playlist is pretty much all about Myka and her past with her father.
1. Tremble For My Beloved - Collective Soul
Title = meaning of episode. Me = not being subtle in my song choices.
2. Prelude 12/21 - AFI
Even though this is such a short song, I love it so much I couldn't help but put it in the episode. Also, you could see this as the "prelude" to the MacPherson epi., and the dark lyrics signal that something big is going to happen in this epi. and the MacPherson epi.
3. My Heroine - Silverstein
This one centers around Myka being the heroine in her father's unpublished novel, and his thoughts about the novel and her animosity towards him.
4. Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap
I really wanted to include this song because, even though all the lyrics don't make sense for this epi., the title makes me think of childhood games of hide and seek, and this episode is about Myka's childhood.
5. Leave Out All the Rest - Linkin Park
A song from Myka's father to Myka, and what he could be thinking to her as he is dying.
MacPherson
This episode was a lot of intense music in it because I wanted it to mirror the intensity of the finale episode, so I put in a lot of action and alternative songs.
1. Fine Again - Seether
I love this song for this epi. because it shows just how unstable everyone has been made by MacPherson, and how it'll take a while to get over the lasting impact he's made on the warehouse (literally) and them.
2. Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
A song for Artie (Artie, especially), Myka and Pete because of the danger they're in when while on the hunt for MacPherson.
3. D.O.A. - Foo Fighters
Just a great action song for this episode.
4. Already Over - Red
A song from Artie to MacPherson, focusing on his desperation to catch him and what he must have been thinking in those final minutes of the episode.
5. Missing - Evenascense
Yes, I had to give poor Claudia her own song. This is her thoughts as she leaves the Leena's B&B for good (or at least until next season).
