HEY GUYS, HEY.

Since I trust your expert tastes and preferences with my life (most of you like Band of Brothers, after all ;D), I was wondering if you'd mind recommending any...

books (I mostly like historical fiction, satire, and dystopias, but I'll read anything good)
or any music (AKA: What is your favorite song, bbs? I'm mostly into... everything ( Read more... )

music, band of brothers

If you like historical fiction, you should definitely try out Guy Gavriel Kay. He's an amazing historical fantasy writer (he basically created the genre) and absolutely my favorite author. He's a very thorough historian, and he learns all about a historical period then crafts it into his own story which is basically a commentary on that time. He's done medieval France, Moorish Spain, the Vikings, and etc etc. He's one of the best character craftsman I've ever encountered, and his books inevitably leave me in floods of tears. You should definitely check him out!

As for music, my favorite artist is My Chemical Romance, hands down forever and ever. :D But for something you might not have heard of (I have no idea what your tastes are like!) I really really love Mandy Moore's new music. She's not a pop princess anymore - she's a sophisticated singer-songwriter with really beautiful, retro music.

I've been meaning to say - I LOVE your LJ layout! It's so pretty.

Oh man get The Old Breed--by Sledgie EB Sledge, you will not regret it at all.

Also, Hero by Perry Moore, it's a great read and the pace goes by really fast.

And if you don't mind, it a bit on the gory side, but Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk--it is amazing.

Also, oh man, Lenka and the Fratellis--I've just like found them cause I am lame but both made me ♥ happy~

I'll probably be by with more book recs later, but the one that sprang to mind: The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I guess it's not really dystopia so much as post-apocalyptic, and you might not like how bleak it is; some people really didn't enjoy it for that reason. But it instantly became one of my favorite books after I read it, so I feel it's my duty to rec it!

As for music, you should check out this post I made awhile back! I think all the links are expired, but if you'd like any of the music there I'm more than happy to re-upload.

Oh, music... The Gaslight Anthem, Hilltop Hoods, VNV Nation! (hee how is that for three different genres?) I'm terrible at the music kind of questions because I have such broad tastes.

My favourite songs RIGHT NOW are:
- Sia, Breathe Me
- Lamb, Gabriel
- Anna Ternheim, No, I Don't Remember

(They all have a very similar feel to them & I find them very good for a hungry brain writing fic. Although mostly ~angsty fic. Which is not what I'm writing right now. *facepalm*)

But my FAVOURITEST SONG at the moment is Khyber Pass by Ministry, which is the final song played in The Hurt Locker.
