When I was fifteen I had a 50cc Honda Cub. One nice day I decided to take it to see my aunt. That was a trip on a bike barely capable of doing forty from Red Bank to Cohutta. Yeah, a rather short 35 mile ride but at that age on that bike to me it was epic. Especially since my dad didn't find out about it until I was in my thirties.

During my college years I rode a Honda 125 between Chattanooga and Cookeville several times, about a 90 mile trip one way. While not epic those were always adventures rather than trips. There is something intriguing and appealing about riding small engine motorcycles long distances. I don't think I would have ever braved riding a 250 on I40 from M'boro past Knoxville, though.

My first bike was a '79 Suzuki GT-380. It had a two-stroke engine. I still miss that bike.
