Work has kept me very busy for quite a while now, even more-so now I am expected to travel to the US frequently. With trips to Denver, Atlanta and Orange County under my belt I am pretty much a seasoned traveller there

I agree 100% about the customer service angle . My own business has survived because I do give attention and service to my customers. The price differential that you speak off drives me crazy. It used to be on records and CDs and the excuse was that all the shipping and importing duties and costs- which is rubbish - especially when Made in the UK is printed on the item. One further insult I have come across is where goods made here in the UK are not even available to UK consumers - I had this with some Stanley tools a while back. The item in question was of a higher quality than the one for the European market but they were not allowed to sell it to the UK , even though it was made in the UK, because it was part of a range that they had done for the US market . I was forced to find a USA retailer and have it shipped back to the UK. Talk about "Coals to Newcastle"!
I think it depends where you are in the States though. We have had gobsmackingly rude service in NY and LA, but then that was probably because they were all 'resting artistés' just venting their frustration on us!
Just browsing friend's of friends weblogs in an idle avoiding work moment and found yours. My sister lives in Denver, she's been there for about 16 years now (yeah for Park Meadows Mall) and it has endlessly intrigued me how things are indeed so much cheaper there, even things like Jo Malone toiletries, made in London, exclusive products sold only in Neiman Marcus I think and yet cheaper there???? How does that work then
