WELL DONE :D Don't be too nervous honey, you get the hang of a till quickly! I can do it without engaging my brain most of the time, you will be able to aswell! I was really scared about handling all that money at first, but it all becomes second nature and that wears off quickly. It improves your maths too, I'm terrible at maths (got a D twice at GCSE \m/) but I'm so much better at quick working out now. You'll gain a lot of confidence from it, in talking to people, handling yourself and standing up for yourself aswell. There were probably applicants with more experience but then surely it's good she chose you because you must have come across as friendly, and a workplace which values that is a good thing :) x
I was awful at maths GCSE too *eek*. it does actually tell you how much change to give on the register right? because really, if i have to stand there and add a load of numbers up, im doomed haha. :D
thats why i really want a job apart from the money of course - to gain more confidence. having to deal with many people each day will undoubtedly make me feel more strong!
Oh yes! Haha it does tell you of course, but it makes you better nonetheless, and occasionally you press the wrong button and you have to work it out yourself, but if I can do it anyone can, lol. Oh and your legs will kill walking around all day but you build up a resistance, I wear heels because I'm super hardcore B-)
my first job was at arby's...which i guess is better than mcdonalds...but not really all that great. i did end up getting a better job at the ice arena at the university near my town...and that was muuuch better=) and i still work there during the school year!
for the first few days, you'll probably seem overwhelmed and not sure about a lot of things. but as you keep working and and keep getting used to the equipment and how things work, then you'll be on your way to being great!=)
i know you'll do well...just have confidence and don't be afraid to ask questions!
holy cow. arby's was my first job too! and you're right...it is better than mcdonalds...i guess. on day one i had someone come in and order a bunch of stuff, only to pay in nothing but pennies! had them in a bag and spilled it out all over the counter. needless to say, i felt doomed from the jump.
good luck with the job, darlin...and the till?!? i'm guessing that's what you call a cash register over in your neck of the woods.
but most importantly, have fun. at least you can be relieved in knowing that you aren't working greasy fry vats.
I'm a cashier at a grocery store, and its my first and only job I have had. When I first started I was so terribly nervous. I couldn't even sleep the night before. And when I started working I was still nervous, but because I was so nervous the time went by so incredibly fast. Now looking upon it I kind of think I was acting silly, becaue really the procedures are pretty simple. When I started they put me through training so that helped. Plus, I'm sure they aren't just going to throw you into it and not tell you how to do anything. I'm sure you will do fine, hun :)
thankyou so much! im going to see her tomorrow so i shall ask about training and such. she is a nice lady so im sure she wont throw me into it.
im going to have so many cups of tea to stop the nerves on my first day. thankfully i wont be starting for a 'few weeks' yet so i know i have at least one week to just prepare myself haha!
My first job was at Starbucks, and I only just quit in April, so I think I can help you here. It was... an experience. You very quickly bond with your co-workers (though not so much with the managers, more with the other employees)... Cafe work was fine. You will be trained and after a few days steaming milk and the drink recipes will be like second nature to you. Do mind the rules about espresso, though... because too much or too little can make or break a drink. It's not hard at all to work a till! Ours had all the basic drinks on one "page" and then modifiers like syrups or sugar or soy milk on another "page". Training will give you a basic sense of how to work it and where everything is... but you will need to ask for help unless you have a photographic memory. Your co-workers will undoubtedly be happy to show off their skill for you and help out.
You will do swimmingly, I'm sure! It's really not difficult at all. Cleaning isn't fun though :(
oh yes, ive been planning in my head what i can save up for!
i tend to worry about things but then it all turns out ok so :D
you said you havnt gotten my letter? i gave my mother a pile of letters to take to the post office for me on her way to work and maybe she forgot a few im not sure.
