If this internship were something you hadn't done before--if you hadn't ever tried journalism--i'd say that you should try it. I'd say you never know, you might love it. But you have tried it for two years and you know that you don't like it. It's not going to add anything to your resume because you've done things in that field already, it's not going to teach you anything you need to know, and it's not going to be fulfilling. I say, life is short. Quit something. Especially if they lied about what it was going to be. Stay in Chicago and go to the ceremony. Say goodbye to your friends. Libraries will take volunteers.
That was totally unsolicited and totally radical, but I had to say it. You know what you need to do. : ) You'll be great at whatever you do, but I think you need to do something for yourself. Try something new and see if you like it--it may end up being perfect.
