In defence of the whining fans, I can relate. No, JKR is not a god, but with all the hype that's been circulating Book 7, she definitely didn't deliver to the best of her abilities. Spelling mistakes, typos, inconsistencies, characters-out-of-character, etc. It's naturally disappointing to those who have waited 10 years for a proper conclusion to their beloved series.
Mind you, I stopped reading at Book Five. The series lost its lustre back then for me. For the record, however, I think the majority of JKR's readership realizes she's not some literary genius, but up until now she has been able to captivate millions of readers around the world. She must've done something right back then, but whatever it was, she didn't do it now. It's extremely disappointing to see an author fail her fans.
Anyhow, I've been watching the frenzy from the sidelines, and I think there is a lot more people complaining about people complaining than anything else. Personally, I will be glad when this whole Potter mania dies down.
I'm not actually talking about fans of the series, I'm talking about people who feel the need to trash the series to everyone who will listen (and especially to fans of the series).
The fans are the fans... some of them certainly talk too much to people who don't want to hear it and then people are justified in being angry with them.
But I am getting really sick of non-fans who trash the series to any- and everyone and in doing so use the lack of academic literary value as their primary argument.
Yeah, but I needed to vent or I was going to explode in someone's face and a journal is, at heart, a place for one to record one's feelings and thoughts. Better this way than the other, IMO.
I love how everybody's all, "IT'S NOT SHAKESPEARE."
Of course it's not; it's a children's book. Look at the Oz books. They're not really all that fantastic in pure OMG LITERARY ANALYSIS TERMS, and they're still "kid's classics".
I was entertained. On balance, it's still cheaper than what I paid to go to the movies last week. *Shrug.*

...also... my characters talk to my all the time... >.>
Marcus: Do not.
Yes, you do, shuddup.
Marcus: But--!
Quiet you!
...in my more sleep deprived moments... like now... it does feel like I am hearing their voices.
Incidentally, Marcus doesn't shut up.
