fifth-grade fucking math

I don't normally watch the daytime edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, but I'm back at my apartment just for a half-hour to charge my Palm, so I flipped over to it to kill some time. It's College Week, and some college-age guy who seems fairly well-spoken, if dopey in a college-guy sort of way, gets this question:

I could solve that pretty easily after a minute here, but honestly I could see myself clamming up with that one on national television, or at least being thrown off by the 36. I was awful at math, however. (I did get a 10/10 on that "Can You Pass 8th Grade Math?" meme last year however!)

Either way, it's pretty embarassing.

The average IQ is 100. I have tested people who end up scoring 100, and it is amazing - during the testing I am always thinking to myself: "God, this person is dumb - how can she/he not know the answer to these easy questions?!" And I think to myself: "I bet this person scores in the 75-85 range (Well Below - Below Average Range)." And sure enough, the Full Scale IQ comes out to be 105...

Does that make me an arrogant ass? Oh well...

I could have figured that out, but I probably wouldn't have thought of it off the top of my head. And if I saw math on national television, I know I would have freaked out.
