The Most Self Indulgent LJ Post Evar

Jan 26, 2007 18:38

The title is fair warning. Since I found a community dedicated to the now vanished place I hung out the most in college, I've had a sense of nostalgia. Combined with my upcoming nuptials, it's put me in a retrospective frame of mind overall. That said, I decided to write down a recap of what's happened in my life since leaving college in Rolla ( Read more... )

Woah! That's got to be the longest LJ post I have ever read. It seems that like me you haven't worked out that LJ cut feature yet. I read it all through. I was recently been surfing a wave of nostalgia as well. I saw Krista and J.r separately at the beginning of this month. I have a resolution to try to stay better in touch with friends ( ... )

There's a cut feature? Heh. Yeah, definitely need to sit down at some point and figure out the details of LJs.

Physics majors can definitely end up as analytical chemists, though to be fair it should probably be qualified: Physics Majors who don't go straight to graduate school or move to Texas or the west coast end up as analytical chemists.

Hah! Not just posts, but three days of posting in a row, including the most bloated post in the history of history!

Hee, yes, I should have checked my friends list before I asked you that question over on my journal. *smirk*

More seriously... I am in the same boat with you as far as "ignoring what you can't or don't want to deal with" thing. It is a character flaw that I continue to struggle with myself (and which has impacted my credit history as well). It's only in the past few years that I've started to gain some ground in the ongoing battle against my worst instincts. So you're definitely not alone in that.

Well then yay on both of us for recognizing and progressing against our issues. *G* It's like Step 1 and 2 in a program, we could call it Passive-Aggressive-Anonomous or something.

Also I'm going back and forth from this thread to the one on your journal, which is a bit dizzying. I was going to respond to some of the stuff in your entry here, but I guess it'd be more appropriate there, so that's where it'll go.

And I missed you too, Miss not exactly a daily poster on LJ herself... ;)

We all have our personal character flaws and quirks to overcome; I've grown up a helluva lot since Rolla (really, it would have been hard not to...), but I still have procrastination issues. Combine that with the fact that it wasn't until a couple years ago that I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, and at age 29 I am finally on the last term of student teaching before getting my shiny elementary ed degree.

Yes. I'm going to be molding the young minds of the future. Fear.I've been through my own gauntlet of life crap; in and out of schools, changes of major, burnout, frustration, topped off with a nice cluster of family medical emergencies. Of course, if I hadn't been through all that, I A) wouldn't have grown quite into the person I am now, and B) probably would never have wound up in a situation where substitute teaching was a reasonable job opportunity, and had I not subbed I never would have dreamed I could be an actual real live teacher ( ... )

Well I got to say, I think I just learned more about you in a few minutes (or however long it took me to read this beast) than I have from occasionally hanging out with you over the years. Guess that says something about by interpersonal skills. This was an especially poignant read considering my current crises at home.

Anyway, congrats on your wedding and other fortunate occurrences!

Yeah, I try not to dump all my issues on people I'm hanging around with. This just seemed like a good place to purge. I heard the basics about your situation from Rich, I'm sorry to hear about it. And thanks for the congrats. I'm going to send a mass email to everyone up in those parts after the deed is done.

So is this supposed to be top secret, or am I allowed to tell folks if it comes up before the "deed is done"?

It's a little top secret. Insomuch as only the people who will be there and everyone on LiveJournal know.
