Odd day

Mar 13, 2006 19:30

So today, we apprehended a woman who admitted to having hepatitus c.

So tomorrow, I'll be making doctors appoitments for hepatitus vaccinations.

Thank god we never had to touch her. And we sprayed two dripping layers of lysol on the entire office, and threw out the chair she in which she sat.

::shudder::

Um, was she bleeding or something? 'Cause I have had a friend with hepatis C for many years... It's like AIDS--communicable through blood or sex. Chill out man. Hepatitus vaccinations after being exposed would be pointless, and it doesn't sound like you were exposed. Oh and my friend was born with hepatitus--so it was not her fault.

I also know someone else with hepatitus C--who you used to know too. Same situtation. If being in the same room with someone with Hepatitus C could infect you--you'd have gotten it years ago from her.

no, I'm not worried about from her. she was cooperative and none of us even touched her. But it raised to the surface a nagging fear I'd had when first taking the job, which was that I could end up in a blood swapping altercation. So I'm going to take advantage of the fact that Depot will pay for all the vaccinations.

I would just hate to end up with something that I could have avoided by just going and getting a few shots. And my 5 tattoos should be proof enough that I'm not a needlephobe, so that's not a concern for me.

And I think I remember you telling me that about her. Didn't she pick it up from some skeevy boyfriend?

Nope. Biological mother. Born with it. Hepatitis C has a very low rate of transmission from sex. It's possible, but unlikely. Most transmission occurs from blood contact by accidents for those in the health field or sharing needles among drug users.

Oh one other note--not that you even need to think about Hepatitis vaccines from sharing a room with this woman, but by the by--Hepatitis C has no vaccine. You're thinking A & B. So save yourself the whole angst of getting unneccesary shots (I'm a needlephobe).
