Neurotheology on the "Sarx" and Ethics

Autobiographical memory (in our left-brain) explains who we really are on the basis of what we have done up to now. Therefore a man who copied his control center from the malfunctioning control centers of his parents might come to believe, after 80 years of life, that he is just a grumpy old man. He has always been grumpy and that is all his ( Read more... )

While tha majority of what you're saying is basically, "Not everyone grows up properly." This is true. The big question within this is what is proper, how, and why did we reach that conclusion. Regardless of where we get our values, we ought to know how and why we came to them. The next step is determining how and why are we justified in bringing this outside of ourselves. Regardless of what we believe, if we cannot offer our beliefs up to others, we can not expect them to agree with us.

For everyone who thinks they X is the objective value by which life ought to be lived, there are people who think X is the denounciation of all things good and holy and that instead Y is how life ought to be lived. While it's true traumatic or bad life experiences can negatively impact someone, we can only make that judgement within our frame of reference. Murder and rape may be deplorable to us, but it works out great for some warlords and is something they prize as an affirmation of their life.

I responded to the wrong comment previously. The last article was written by psys & scients (sp) This one I got from a friend on my space, I apologize for not posting that before hand. Thanks for responding though.

Anyhow, I was thinking about that today. What keeps someone from killing someone else? Why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't you? Would you and would you enjoy it? In the Chrisitian worldview, we have what we call "a spirit of self control" in which many cases we are able to control that overwhelming desire to rape, ravish, indulge, mame, lust after fleshly desires which used to feel good. The tree of good & evil. When Adam & Eve took that first bite from that apple from the tree of the Knowlege of good & evil they recieved just that ... a conciousness. What was good? What was evil? Previously they had nothing to be ashamed about. There was no fear. no shame. That is how sin, evil entered the world. That's why we don't walk around naked without feeling embarrased about it. lols.

Well, as for why most species don't rape and pillage and kill eachother is because it's bad for the business of survival. If you have a habit of killing everyone, it's probably going to diminish your ability to reproduce safely and in sufficient numbers to keep going. Some species do kill off certain parts of their own, such as the praying mantis or some sea horses. There's evolutionary benefit to being a stable contributing member of society, and there's general detriment to the acts of theft and murder on a large scale ( ... )

Well, I disagree entirely. Do you watch the news? Random acts of murder is survival? No, I call that lawlessness buddy. lols. No moral boundaries. No moral compass. There's a difference between the survival mech and selfish living. Throughout history we have seen the distruction of our own society through our untamed desires. What's to stop us? Hell, I wouldn't care, myself. Life is afterall meaningless, I have nothing to lose but it. AI is no match for natural stupidity ( ... )
