Title: One Step Foward, Two Steps Back
Description: At the wedding, Ami caught the bride’s bouquet, and Zoisite clocked Ryo on the rain-drenched balcony.
A/N: Outtake from The King's Men, which should probably be read before this one. Quite a few people seemed to like this line, so I figured it was time to go back and see what happened.

He should have been having the time of his life. )

king's men, kunzite, angst, ami, friendship, nephrite, alternate universe, endymion/mamoru, makoto, zoisite, jadeite

This is so heartbreaking... any chance there is a happy ending? ANY?!!!!!!

The unholy glee I feel from such reactions is probably counterproductive ;). I think the chance is nonzero that there *is* a happy ending, but at the moment I have no idea how close it is to zero -- it depends on whether or not you think Ryo is a liar... :)

I love this, painful as it is. You portray Zoisite's caustic state of mind so well, I almost winced at a few points. Beautifully written, as always - so lovely to read your writing again after a long time!

Thank you, Apsara! I always wince when I realize it's been a year between posts these days (must work on this). I'm glad things aren't too rusty :D

There are so many beautiful lines in this one, and your Zoisite is so sharp, I almost cut myself on him while reading. He's sharp and brilliant and tortured and absolutely idiotic, and I like that where Kunzite would have given her up because it is the right thing to do, Zoisite, more impulse, more impassioned, rages quietly until his anger spills over. I also like your Ryo; it's so difficult to write the 'other' guy in anything resembling three dimensions, but you did it so beautifully.

Chapeau, Madame!

Thank you, Lytton! I love your reading of Zoisite -- it's certainly him in a nutshell with all his flaws and weaknesses, but somehow it's hard not to root for him. Or at least feel bad for the trouble he gets into! I'm especially pleased to hear that Ryo isn't entirely unsympathetic. He's always my fall guy for A/Z, poor thing...

I'm so happy you're back!! :) Any chance this means more On Razor's Edge before my heart breaks??
