I want one. Lovecraft tends to fall squarely between dieselpunk and steampunk, doesn't it? You can really do either style for your story. I would make one of these right the fuck now if I knew of an all-night craft store and had a jar on hand.

...I really have to play my alchemist again sometime. Damndamndamn. I hate having single-use props since it ( Read more... )

“I wonder if there's a place where I can acquire lots of small jars at reasonable prices?”

Eat lots of pasta and keep the sauce jars. Some of them (like Classico) are even graduated. Iced tea or coffee mix also comes in glass fairly often. For smaller jars, look to jelly or mustard. If you were going to eat it anyway, the jars are free.

As for “Propping up the Mythos”, I had a link to it from the old MR web site until Tony made me remove it (along with all references to other games). He had only recently added the misspellings to “shuggoth” and “servitor”, and I think he was still trying to claim ignorance of Lovecraft should anyone ever sue.

Huh. I'm not clear on copyright law, but wouldn't that be like someone from Tolkien's estate suing over elves or horse-riding warriors? Servantors and shaggothes are recognizable, but they're definitely different.

This is the guy who changed “Turn Undead“ into “Avert Undead” for fear of litigation, even though “Turn Undead” survived TSR's mad-dog lawsuit days in table-top RPGs far more similar to D&D than MR. Then, in the same release, he added “Dispel Magic”.

Not that I have a folder full of links of things to buy if my game ever lets me have my own alchemy lab or anything. Also thrift stores.

Oh dear. Thrift stores for the win, definitely. And now that I think about it I can probably mine the pantry for some glassware.

This would be the obligatory mention of how my game would lovelovelove it if you brought an alchemy lab with you. Our alchemists have a pretty nice setup, but more can only make it better.

Nooo, do not tempt me with other games, my sanity and wallet cannot afford such things. Also I imagine it would be super lame to just re-create the same character in a different game, cause I've been the same girl so long I've lost all desire to be a player as anyone else.

Oh well. We're at Dreamation in February, and that's waaay closer to your neck of the woods than our things normally are. We've got a dark fantasy game and a superhero game for the con. I can guarantee awesomeness for both.
