As you may be aware, I've gone off Effexor before but never cold turkey. I did the opposite of that this last time, starting with a larger than recommended dose and suffering through the side effects.
Having a good attitude toward life's challenges certainly is a big part of the battle, but sometimes, circumstances outside of our control can throw us a curveball. I'm glad you have friends and family keeping an eye out for you. Sometimes, it is a chemical imbalance that NEEDS to be addressed.
The world is always colourful. Awareness is what gives us the clarity and appreciation for its richness.
There are plenty of alternatives to Effexor. I was going to change but it was what I happened to have on hand when I needed something.

No doubt I had a crisis in August 2006, and some kind of chemical imbalance. I suspect that it was a combination of long term sleep deprivation and long term stress that caused it.
Do I still have that imbalance, having removed those two factors from my life. Dunno, I'm guessing it will take time to settle and find out what my "normality" is.
I had similar reaction when I stopped Cymbalta. I'm curious, how did the sleep apnea end up? I'm going to go through an evaluation soon. I honestly sleep deprivation plays a big part in my outlook on life.

Good luck with everything.
