The Green Eyed Monster

  • Jealousy and Envy. If there are two emotions I hate most of all, these would top the list. If I'd have to compare the two, Envy takes the cake as being my most despised emotion of all time. There is something about the feeling of being 2nd best that really pisses me off - lol ( Read more... )

I think they are valuable and necessary yes, but the way people act can be bad.

I'm a horrible person when faced with jealousy. I have a tendency to be protective when attatched, and sometimes my iron fist gets in the way of my good intentions.

I'm working on it though :/

    I hear ya sir.

I've said and done some really dumb things in my time based on my feelings of jealousy and envy.

I used to go into blind rages as a teen. I stopped that from happening and now I'm able to maintain myself a lot better. But the feelings linger and pop up sometimes and that makes life really hard ;(

I can explode too easily. I've been trying for a long time to calm myself and avoid situations that I'll regret because of the damage I've done to myself in the past when faced with similar situations.

Proceed with caution, and think before you attack.

    hah no kidding.

When I get pissed I know that I better keep my mouth shut.

I recently got angry about that situation I was telling you about in IRC ... I was on the phone and basically said: "Look, I'm gonna get off the phone now or I'm going to say some things that I really don't mean ... later!"

I, like you, am very evil when agitaed.

jealousy/envy - the monster I battle almost every day. It depends on what I'm feeling jealous/envious about as to how I try and deal with it. Most of the time I just sit and cry because I feel threatened and terribly inadequate. I think there was a time when I did not feel these feelings as intensely as I do now but it is difficult to remember what that was like ( ... )

A long comment but a good one! This is the kinda thing I'm looking for. It's useful to express these feelings.

The horrible curse about jealousy and envy is that you feel so alone in it. Well, alone in a dark and horrible prison with the image of the person that is causing you torment burning in your mind. Not fun.

You nailed it on the head too. Polyamarous relationships are very hard when you're feeling these feelings.

You're obviously one step ahead of most people in that you are actively trying to behave differently when you feel the feelings you do. A lot of people just become raging maniacs.

I like your point about self improvement. The positive spin on it is helpful.

I've learned with jealousy that there are two ways you can approach it and be somewhat successful: 1) You fight for whatever it is youre jealous of, or 2) you make the decision to give up on it. The second is most difficult but is often a wiser decision. Because if its already someone elses's, then who's right is it of yours to take it away? And if we're talking about girls here, whos to say that if you do get her she wont turn around and do the same thing again when another guy wants her.

Remember the longer you allow yourself to be jealous the longer you will remain emotionally attached to it, better to cut your losses early and move on :)

Sorry, its early. i tried to make sense

That makes a lot of sense.

This problem isn't so easily solved re: Envy however. If you're dealing with envy of a person who makes you feel inadequate, there really is no help for that except to bolster your own image of self. At least that's the conclusion I've come to.

If their actions are creating the deficiency in your own image of self, then they may not be someone you want to spend time with.

Otherwise, you're right, it is a personal issue.

I'm never really envious, I guess that's because I know everyone has their own problems, though maybe not as apparent as others

I like the idea of using envy as motivation. Turn the good 2 bad. Methinks this is good :)

Thanks! My friend Dewell made it for me.

I'm thinking of revamping my journal soon. It's been long enough. You'll likely see some more icons soon :)

I also believe these emotions serve a greater purpose. But they are only prompts to point our perceptions towards our own personal insecurities. And that is exactly why they are so difficult to rein in. We don't want to see these insecurites & feel them. But we must. If we are completely comfortable with ourselves, as ifihadwings said, we would stop trying to make improvements. Some people don't move forward out of these emotions. They let themselves stay stuck & focus on those insecurities & then use those emotions they feel to manipulate others; emotional blackmail. I should know. I have done that many times over the years, & had others do the same ( ... )
