Riza pretty much adopted Adam when he washed up here and gave him shelter. Adam's pretty sure if it wasn't for her, he'd have not calmed down or got over the shock of the island. Despite her military mannerisms, Riza is someone Adam is extremely comfortable with. Perhaps it's because she does bear a slight resemblance to his mother or just her calming personality, he does see her as an older sister figure.

If Riza is the older sister figure to Adam, amongst his housemates; then Rin is the younger but mature bookwormish sister that still feels older. If that makes any sense.
