Aha!--you're really making up for lost time now. Two weeks...you'll have a great time. You might want to avoid the far south, as there's a smoldering insurgency there. If you work your way north, you can supposedly got a visa to enter Laos at the "Friendship Bridge" between the two countries...we hope to make that trip someday... though I'm sure you'll have no problem filling two weeks in Thailand without having to go that far afield.
You might want to try to write out your past trip experiences--just for yourself, for future reference--before you go to Thailand and go through two weeks of sensory overload which might subsume some of the previous details from your memory. Just a suggestion.
We're looking into Morocco next year, entering via Spain. But for now we're just preparing for Beijing. Seven more months to wait...
I had to write you as it is a very strange coincidence that you wrote about Morocco, at the EXACT moment that I said the word Morocco. Danielle asked me where I would like to go next!!! Wow, that was a really cool coincidence.
Nice one on the 2 pieces of advice...do you have any more detail on HOW far south you are talking about. For example would Phuket or Hat Rin (the full moon parties) be in the area you're speaking of. Also, I want to go to Bali.
Yes, I will start writing about the other trip probably tonight, based on some good advice from you. I think I will "sketch it out" which will enable to make a good structure later.
Cheers...enjoy your weekend.
One of these days we'll talk on the phone, that would be fun.
Take a look at the page http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/thailand2.htm which details the insurgency. Apparently the provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala are most risky. Phuket and Hat Rin, I'd guess, would be OK, but wasn't Phuket affected by the tsunami? You might want to check current conditions. Try the Thorn Tree bulletin board at www.lonelyplanet.com , and maybe the one at www.bootsnall.com as well.
Bali is in Indonesia, which had those two huge earthquakes occur this year. You'd have to fly there from Thailand, so you should probably do some research first on costs, transport problems because of the quakes, etc.
Yeah, we should talk on the phone someday. Maybe after you get back from this next trip. Enjoy it!
