I was very excited about the idea even though I have a long history of killing almost everything I try to grow. I checked out a bunch of garden books from the library and did a lot of research online. We started seeds indoors back in March, transplanted ( Read more... )

It was a proud moment to have been present at the picking of the first zucchini.

Yes, that was exciting. I'm sorry you missed the discovery of the 2nd giant zucchini.

Which you apparently... HAVEN'T EATEN YET?! C'mon, take a bite of that thing.

The biggest zucchinis I've seen, incidentally, were at the old Jason house off Kalamath. The anarchist residents were growing them on the median in the middle of the city and let those things get frigging huge. Rumor had it, however, that the zucchinis were actually poisoned with arsenic from the treated wooden borders of the garden. I dared not test it.

You know, I can't quite decide. I should probably come up with something by dinner time tomorrow or Wednesday. Otherwise it will be too old and I will be sad. Any suggestions?

My mom used to slice them and bake them in the oven with bits of bacon. God knows why. Terrible, terrible way to cook zucchini.

But let's see: You could go Chinese and put them in a stir-fry. You could go New Mexican and put them in a burrito with potatoes, corn, beans, red chili on top. You could stuff them (especially that big one) with mushrooms, onions, bread crumbs, etc. You could make a veggie sandwich with zucchini, sliced beets, fresh sprouts, red onions, swiss cheese and and Veganaise. You could grill them with olive oil. You could stick them on shish-kebabs with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. The zucchini is all-powerful! Bow before your green master!

Thanks for the ideas! We were too tired to cook tonight but I think I will try something tomorrow.
